I just installed my ecobee 3 but I havent seen any data get filled into the system monitor trend. Do they just download the data once per day or something?

Got anything yet? You're talking about the charts on the ecobee site, right? You should see something by now.

yeah it looks like it is about 1 hour behind and it only updates if you logout and back in. pretty shitty.

also, it looks like the sensor that came with it is fricked. it was reading about 3 degrees above the main unit so I stuck it outside to see what it would do and it is reading 65.

What are you wanting out of the system monitor, you only have a few hours into it?

No idea on the sensors, I went with the lite.

If you want to see real time info, you can always look at the app or go to the thermostat itself lol. Mine is a bit behind too now that I am looking at it often.

What i wanted to see is the amount of time the fan is kicking on per hour. It doesnt seem to be doing 10 min per hour like i have it set.

How long did you leave it out there? They only update every few minutes, and it might take a while for it to "settle in".

I put one of mine outside to test. Started at 72, three minutes later it read 65, three minutes after that 57, then 47, then 44. I brought it back inside at that point because the ecobee was working overtime.

Are you sure it was still within the 45 foot range from the wall unit?

I think the sensors are pretty accurate. I think a lot of the "bad sensor" complaints are because people expect instantly accurate temps, and it's just not going to work that way. I wouldn't expect one to read accurately for maybe an hour after it has been sitting undisturbed. I brought that sensor back inside almost 20 minutes ago, and it's still reading 5+ degrees low. It rose 25 degrees pretty quickly, but knowing a bit about how heat travels, I think those last 5 degrees will take as long to dial in as the first 25. The temp of the housing has to rise. I know it's just a small thing, but it still has a much higher heat capacity than air.

How do you know it was not accurate when it was reading 3 degrees higher than the main unit? I have 3 sensors plus main, and there is almost always at least 4 degrees difference between high and low in different rooms. Or did you hold the sensor next to the wall unit? If so, your hand was probably the 3 degrees.

I'm just saying give it a little time before calling it wrong.

Hasn't your heater been running more than 10 minutes per hour all day? Mine certainly has.

actually this piece of shite hasnt kicked on since I first installed it. Its 66 in my house right now and even though I have the setpoint on 79 it isnt calling for the heater to run. also, looking at the trend, the fan is running 10 min per hour twice per hour. The sensor has also quit working completely. frick this piece of shite it is going back to amazon.

ha, I just yanked it off the wall and put it back on to make it reboot and the heat kicked right on. what a piece of shite.

30 min later heat is still running but the thermostat is not showing that the fan and heat is running.

I went got another one from lowes and pretty much the same issues. doesnt kick on. pull unit out of base then put back in and heat kicks on but the unit only shows the fan and heat running for a few minutes. I am sure that it would never kick off.

back in with my honeywell. only wanted to switch to use the kick on the fan for at least 10 min every hour option.

Are you a CAD alt?

The unit is pretty simple IMO and I haven't had any issues with mine.

Assuming you are home, and it recognizes motion, the Thermostat will kick on the heat/cool based on the average temperature (so main unit plus any sensors set to tie into that comfort setting) vs the high/low setting of the T-stat.

Is the unit wired correctly? Do you have any special circumstances, such as a heat pump, auxiliary heat, etc?

The unit can be as smart as you allow it. Otherwise, it can function exactly the same as a standard T-stat.

Sounds like there is a wiring issue or setup.

it was wired exactly like the honeywell that I have except it didnt have the jumper on rc rh but it also said that it didnt need it. the issue that I had was that it would not call for the unit to run. regardless of if it was wired right or wrong, which it wasnt, the thermostat should call for the heat to come on if the setpoint is 79 and the inside temp is 68.

Im not sweating it, the honeywell that I have works great, I just thought it would be nice to circulate the air at least 5-10 min every hour.

I'm not trying to be an arse here, but it is pretty critical that a thermostat is wired right for it to work correctly.

And lots of people on this board have ecobees that work just fine, so it seems highly unlikely that you received two in a row that are broken.

So either it's not wired correctly (did you follow the directions from ecobee, or did you just wire it like your Honeywell?), or there is something weird about your setup. Either way, I think your anger toward ecobee is misplaced.
