LINK (some NSFW language used)

quote:

A network process using 100% of the CPU, WiFi disconnecting at random times, and names, names (1), names (2), names (4). All caused by a crappy piece of software called discoveryd.

quote:

Regardless of the many issues people were reporting with discoveryd, Apple went ahead and released it anyway. As a result, this piece of software is responsible for a large portion of the thousand cuts. Personally, I’ve wasted many hours just trying to keep my devices talking to each other. Macs that used to go months between restarts were being rebooted weekly. The situation is so bad that I actually feel good when I can just kill discoveryd and toggle the network interface to get back to work.

Only good thing that’s come of this whole situation is that we now have more empathy for the bullshite that folks using Windows have suffered with for years. It’s too bad that Apple only uses place names from California, because OS X Redmond would be a nice homage.

It’s no secret in the tech community that discoveryd is the root cause of so many problems. There are even crazy workarounds. With so many issues, you’d expect some information from Apple explaining ways to mitigate the problems.

Nope.

Just cause I prefer doesn't mean I have my head in the sand and believe it's flawless.

I wish, but wishing doesn't make it so.

Is this the reason for the spinning wheel and slow response time form the latest update?

The experts will have to weigh in on this. I'm not having any connection problems. But I'm catching hell with Safari on my home computer. Yet safari hums away at the office. I suspect Flash or Shockwave but haven't figured it out yet.

My 2011 Air is running as good as ever. I just have problems on my home network with the Airport Extreme randomly reseting itself 2-3x a day. It brings down my internet for about 45 seconds, so I hardly ever notice it because I have to be using the internet when it happens. It usually only effects me once every 2 weeks.

I'm not having connection issues. I'm having very slow response time and I get the spinning wheel a lot! Also have a customer with a 5 year iMac and it's a the point that it's unusable. I just ordered them new iMac that was stupid expensive.

I'm sure I could wipe my laptop and install from scratch but I shouldn't have to.

I haven't had any problems myself but it's pretty clear that Apple needs to work on another Snow Leopard-type release, where there's little-to-no new features and all polishing under the hood.

I heard iOS 9 will be all refinements and polish heavy on the back end to tighten up what they've been doing with the OS.
