We are looking to get new satellite boxes for our tailgate. We have Direct Tv service but don't want to go through them for new boxes. Is it possible to buy new boxes online (ebay, amazon, etc) and use the cards from the existing boxes on the new boxes we purchased?

Sorry for the confusing question.

The boxes at the house are newer HD boxes and are not accessible. Looking to replace older boxes with something basic but not sure if the card can changed from box to box.

Yes, you can buy, you will need to have a card in them as well. Just activate for the season and deactivate after.

Make sure you have the right equipment to make the box to the dish.

The cards are married to each box. Can't swap from machine to machine.

Solid Signal but there still leased boxes from Directv. The ones on ebay are often leased boxes and Directv won't activate them. There are some owned boxes on ebay but I would verify using the # on the card with Directv.
