First post ever on this board, so want to apologize, as I am sure this thread is started monthly, if not weekly.

However, wife and I are going to get rid of Cox. Hoping that y’all could offer some advice on where to go from here. Currently have additional subscriptions for Amazon and several channels through that, HBOMax, Netflix and ESPN.

Can y’all recommend any service that we can still get some live TV through (primarily sports related)? YouTube any good? Seems a lot of people are moving to that.

Thanks, and any advice is much appreciated!

No need to apologize. It has been discussed a lot and frequently but you weren't here then so no need to say sorry.

First off - welcome! But in terms of "cutting the cord" and going full in on streaming, there's a good bit to ask yourself.
1) Do you have fast wifi/internet and do you have unlimited bandwidth per month? If you live in the NOLA area and have AT&T Fiber, you'll be fast enough and you have unlimited data usage. This matters if you want to just stream news all day without any cares about being charged more $$

2) Do you already have a streaming device such as a RokuTV, Apple TV, Firestick, etc?
Might I recommend AppleTV if you're in that ecosystem or simply the Google Chrome with TV if you're more android/google based.

3) From there, do you already have streaming services such as Hulu?
If you have Hulu already then going with Hulu with Live TV might be the best bang for your buck
However, I think most folks in general prefer Youtube TV. It has the best/easiest/simplistic interface.

Finally, do the trials of different services and see what you and your family likes best. Everyone likes different layouts and such. Also, the streaming services aren't as cheap as they were 3-4 years ago but it gives you flexibility that being locked into a traditional cable service does not allow.

A decent antenna gets crystal clear ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox. That’s a good bit of live sports and prime time tv for free.

YouTube TV is good.

FuboTV seems to have the most sports overall. Lots of horse racing and soccer on top of all the usual channels if that is your thing.

I'm actually gonna piggy back off this point and ask a question.

I have the HDHomeRun Quattro with 4 tuners and God forbid we get another hurricane and lose internet, does the digital antenna through the HDHomeRun app still provide signal via inTRAnet in my home?

For example, I can run a generator and power a tv, HDHomerun and antenna. Will I be able to see local radar and such via the digital antenna and hdhomerun without internet?

as long as your LAN router is up and functioning, you should. You might lose guide/program, data though.

If that should happen, just connect the antenna to a TV away you go. Or just split the antenna coax signal so it runs to both the HDhomerun and a TV and be done with the concern all together.

YouTube TV is really good, with Hulu Live & Fubo being the only real competitors (Sling has Sports, but it lacks in many other areas). You may have ESPN, but chances are you do not have the full ESPN version that will allow you to watch NFL, College football/baseball, basketball games... You most likely will need one of the previously mentioned subscriptions to watch these events.

Do not forget to check your cell phone plan. Verizon has an option that will give you Disney+, Hulu, & ESPN+ for free. I know AT&T had similar offers, but I'm not a customer so not sure if it's still a thing.

Finally, this site will give you a breakdown of the main three live TV options. It would be best to see what channels each offers and see if you need to eliminate any right off the back.

I have tried Hulu TV, Youtube TV and Sling TV. Hulu doesn't let you use their "live tv" except at your home location. I have a second location I wanted to watch, so quit Hulu. Next tried Youtube TV. It was good but didn't carry history channel, so one month and quit. Went with Sling Orange and Blue, and that was working real good for me. Carried History and ESPN, SEC, etc. Now, I live in East Texas and realized with Direct TV streaming, I can get everything I get with Sling in addition to the Rangers, Stars (Regional Sports Network, Bally Sports). So when I get back home, they offer a free trial period, I'll try it out and make sure it works for me, then I'll subscribe to that. The good thing about streaming is you don't have a contract and can do a monthly subscription if not a free trial to try them out.

directv stream is a great option other than price. It is the Cadillac of the streaming world, especially for a single person.

The biggest knock on DirecTV stream for me was the lack of profiles. If multiple people use the service, all your recordings show in the same DVR bucket and you have no personalization for each person who uses it. YTTV's profile setup is awesome in that respect.

Here is the HooDoo Strategy.

Internet.
Antenna for local, mostly Saints games.

YouTube TV from beginning of college football to MNC game then unsubscribe. Shift this money to another platform such as Netflix. When you get caught up on the shows, unsubscribe and shift to another like paramount or HBO. I never subscribe to more then one service at once.

Also there at lots of good free movie devices, i.e. Pluto, Crackle, etc.

You can only watch so much TV, so no need to have more options then you can watch.

YouTube tv is great, I was a hesitant cord cutter bc sometimes I just like to scroll a guide and watch some mindless tv without having to think about it on a streaming service.

Zero complaints after almost a year

Haven't had cable since 2010. The best experience I've had is with YouTubeTV. Interface is comfortable for me and simple enough for the wife and kids. I'm not really a sports guy; I'm a football guy. So when football season ends, I switch to Philo and antennae. Philo has no news or sports; Just channels like Discovery and History. This allows the service to be only $20. In a couple of weeks, I will reactive YouTubeTV until February.

Amazon Prime is worth it for us because we order 90% of our food and goods online. We do Amazon Music because our smart home devices are all Amazon Echos. I will pick up HBO Max for specific series, but not year around. Netflix is becoming less and less worth the cost. Disney Plus is a must with two kids.

I have a jailbroken Firestick and run a paid app called

RedPill. I have thousands of movies on demand. Live TV, porn (i don't watch), PPV events. blah blah blah.

Literally everything you can think of.

I paid $100 for the entire year.

If you like watching the Astros, Fubo TV is what you need. YouTube TV is great but it currently doesn’t allow you to get the local Astros broadcast. YouTube TV has the best DVR function in unlimited DVR recordings.

Check antennaweb.org . You search by address and it tells you what type of antenna you need for each local station.
