I had the same problem, had to call out cox. They came in and said all my cable connectors needed replacing. And they added a signal amplifier. And of course they charged for the service call. To fix something that worked before the mini box. Bastards...

Did you have the DVR or other HD box on other sets before? Were you watching the locals in HD over cable straight from the wall before?

Yes of course. Any damn way Cox can fleece their customer base, they are going to do it every time.

Have the DVR on one set, it works fine. It was just the mini box....

You guys have got it all wrong. Cox is doing this to improve the viewer experience. It's all for the benefit of their customers. At least that's what the commercials and mailers said.

Since their DVR was working pre-box, and they had to add an amp, I would try to get a refund on the service call, because your home was capable of getting HD service. It was their signal that had to be improved, and they don't charge for problems originating outside the home.

Replacing all the connectors doesn't hurt, but I've seen a guy replace regular F connectors with compression fittings "just because." Especially since they still had to add an amp, I don't buy that it was necessary, and if you have their "inside wiring insurance" (and they still offer it), that might should have covered it.
