Copying old had drive and settings

I have an old hard drive that I set up as an external drive with a SATA Box. I want to copy to my new computer but I want to save my settings as well. I have w-7 on the old I have w-8 on the new. I want my new pc as close to the old one as possible. I know about easy transfer, I was looking to save my set up as well. This may be easier than I am making it out to be, but I hate setting up a new computer.
