Contacts Management- Windows Phone 8 vs Android

I have had a Nokia Lumia 920 since they came out in Dec 2012. I love how my contacts are managed in the "People" app. Everything is compiled and updated automatically and seamlessly for me.
I've been looking at a few of the android based phones, including the Note and Nexus phones. I have never used Android and I'm sure there's quite a learning curve, but I'm a quick learner. I was wondering how the contacts management compares between the two OS's.

I use gmail and my phone syncs with it to update my contacts.
