If you own a nexus device, you can mirror on version 1.5
quote:
This morning, Google announced that Android screen mirroring is officially now available for Chromecast users. With this feature, owners of a compatible smartphone or tablet, with access to a Chromecast over a WiFi connection, can mirror their device’s display onto the big screen in their living room.
When mirroring, whatever you see on your smartphone will be displayed on your TV, meaning you can watch videos, view pictures, and play inside of apps. No exact mention was made about gaming, but a latency issue could make that a bit difficult.
Google states that this feature is currently in Beta, so if it seems broken at times, don’t be alarmed.
Here is the list of compatible devices:
Nexus 4
Nexus 5
Nexus 7 (2013)
Nexus 10
Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy S4 (Google Play Edition)
Samsung Galaxy S5
Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Samsung Galaxy Note 10
HTC One M7
HTC One M7 (Google Play Edition)
LG G3
LG G2
LG G Pro 2
Support for additional devices coming soon
To use it, you will need the updated Chromecast application from Google Play, so be on the lookout for version 1.7.

Haven't had a chance to try it yet. Can anyone confirm if latency when casting from a laptop has been addressed?

really? have you tried updating the chromecast app manually from the play store & see if the 'cast to screen' option shows up now?

no need..just grab it from the play store.
you'll see it right inside the app. (i'm at work too so i dont have access to my chromecast either right now)
eta to avoid confusion, i'm talknig about the ANDROID APP...not your physical chroemcast itself.

quote:screen mirroring as been available on android for a couple years now. Like ios, you have always needed a secondary device that is hooked up to your TV to mirror to. Chromecast now's supports this

Pretty sure ios will be able to mirror through chromecast soon as well, making chromecast a cheaper option than apple tv

its already been demoed at the google dev conference last week.
creepy..it apparently detects your iphone is in the 'same room' as a chromecast & you can cast to it without even joining the wifi network..it does it through your 3g.

That's right. Forgot about that.
Android L is suppose to have support through mobile data right?

Wouldn't be surprised if Apple came out with a $29 HDMI stick that only lets you AirPlay in the fall.

competition is a good thing
