I've been real happy with my Asus Chromebook Flip.

You can find the starter model for $239, though I went for the step-up at $279.

Build quality is excellent and the battery lasts all day.

Do you want touch screen?

I got my son an Acer 11.6 for like $175, and it's fine. Doesn't have touch screen, and it is probably smaller than what I'd want for my personal use. Great for him, though.

For $250, you can get a pretty damned nice chromebook.

Toshiba Chromebook 2
ASUS Flip
Acer 13

The HP 14 is pretty nice. It should be around $250-300.
