Do you have to use a VPN on your computer to watch a blacked out WatchESPN event or is there a way to run the VPN on the Roku and watch the event on the TV through the Roku?

Thanks and SIAP !!!

Using DD-WRT or TomatoUSB open source firmware, VPN capabilities are built in to the router using the most popular VPN protocols; OpenVPN & PPTP. You can even encrypt the connections of streaming HD video or media device that do not have native VPN support. Encrypt the connection of your Apple TV, Smart HDTV, Roku, Boxee Box, iPad, iPhone, as well as laptops and gaming consoles (Xbox, Nintendo Wii, Sony Playstation), all with the help of a FlashRouter. Browse websites safely and securely or stream movies, TV shows, music, and other media, because your FlashRouter-based Internet connection makes it possible.

Flashed Routers, which encrypt all devices on your network.

Or you can do it yourself LINK

The aggravating thing about VPN routers is that it's a bit cumbersome to switch servers and Netflix has blacklisted all OpenVPN servers so you have to turn the VPN off, again a bit cumbersome, to watch Netflix.

There's ways around to get around that although you'll need more hardware or configure software

Dual Routers

Dual Gateway

VPN Guest Network

Or dual NICs

I used the dual router set up during baseball season last year. It worked okay, but still a bit cumbersome. Especially because the wife and kids refused to "learn" to unplug the ethernet cable on the Apple TV (connected to the VPN router) whenever Netflix threw the VPN error. This resulted in me having to give them "tech support" (unplug the ethernet cable for them) every damn time.

ETA: I'm a bit surprised there isn't a VPN app for the Apple TV now that there is an App Store. Does Apple not allow for VPN provisions on the Apple TV?

Meh, you need to forget about Netflix.. Plex is legit

ETA: although that's easy for me to say, I don't have kids.. I have time to play around with it

I already have a 3 TB Plex library!

I ordered a 6 TB WD yesterday because I'm out of space.
