My wife loved her Canon Powershot ELPH, but it's finally dead. I've been looking for a good replacement as a birthday gift, but most of the ELPH models that she is used to are on backorder. Is there a good comparable camera out there that I should look at? She already has a nice camera that she uses for more serious photography. She just needs something for more candid photos she can take during a normal outing with the kids, etc...

Thanks in advance.

This board is pathetic, and I am pathetic for posting in it.

Canon S100 or S110 is a jam-up option. Probably an older model, since I've had the S100 for a few years.

The link has good reviews.

I had an ELPH in the early aughts that I really liked. Honestly, new smartphone is probably the way to go - focus on getting the right apps to help with the camera operation and photo management. That's probably going to be the 90% solution - and one that you're unlikely to forget.

For current Canon (I like Canon) offerings, there are still powershot models, even ELPHs. Now, if you get into the Gs, that's probably more than you want to spend on this. The ELPH 360 HS is just over $200.

That's the one I would get for your application.

Backordered where? I just checked Adorama website and the 350 is in stock. Have you checked there?

I don't know much about the ELPH line. However, a couple years ago I was in the market to buy a new camera. I wanted a point and shoot that took great pictures.

I bought a Sony RX100 (3rd gen) and very happy with it. It also does great video. They are pricey, but you can get the earlier models for cheaper. I think Sony just announced the 5th gen model.
