Like a lot of you on here, I'm a lover of music. I really enjoy playing music while I cook / hang out in the kitchen. Lately my wife has been giving me grief on the poor sound quality streaming music directly off my iPhone.

Any suggestions for an affordable speaker with better sound quality?

TIA.

Go to the Best Buy and listen to the Bluetooth speakers yourself so you can judge them. There have been ones posted here that people swore by that I thought weren't very good when compared to other options.

I have the Oontz Angle 3 Plus whatever. For the money it's a great speaker.

Case in point, I spoke well of the JBL Charge 3, which I thought improved after the firmware update. A few weeks later, I was very dissatisfied with the sound quality. Solo piano sounded decent, but most everything else was a mess that just didn't sound much like music. I replaced it with a Bose Revolve, and the difference was immediate and has been lasting. That thing sounds better than it has any right to sound. It's the first Bose product I've ever owned, and I used to ridicule the brand along with everyone else. Besides Bluetooth and 3.5mm jack connections, it can be plugged into a computer, where it appears as a USB speaker.

It'll be very interesting to see how Apple's HomePod with its 7 tweeters compares to the Revolve and its single full-range driver, but that'll be a $349 product vs $199 for the model I have. There's also a larger Revolve for $299, but it's still a single driver.

I have a Anker SoundCore 2 which I think is an awesome speaker at this price point.

But... what I did for the wife in the kitchen was add the Echo, giving the personal assistant functionality with the sound, albeit at a lower quality.

Take a look at Sonos too.
