I want to get rid of this crappy rental modem that cox has given me. Have any of you purchased your own from the web?

I like the netgear AC1900. Great range and stable connections. Dual band as well.

LINK

ETA: i noticed you said modem sorry. They make these netgears as a router/modem combo as well.

Here is a list from Cox of certified cable modems: LINK

I bought the ARRIS SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem (SB6141) from amazon for ~$60 and have not had any issues. I would just search the compatible modem list from cox on amazon and make a determination based on reviews and speed.

I recently switched to this one as well and have had no problems. I'm a cord cutter and stream all of my programming through Apple TV and Amazon Fire Stick without problems.

The ole surfboard modem has been recommended for ages.

I have run this or a previous version for years now without many issues. Any issues I had were typically on the router.

pretty much the whole point of getting rid of cox rentals for most people is to get rid of the combo unit.

but yeah, what other people have said: Surfboards. Have been using some Surfboard modem or other since I ever got cable internet over 15 years ago.

Just bought a Netgear CM1000 last weekend (on Comcast, not Cox) coupled with a Netgear Nighthawk X6S Router. So far it has been solid. Went from an Surfboard sbs6141.

I didn't purchase these from the web, but did purchase the Surfboard online. The first one I received wouldn't work with Xfinity, so I returned it for another...second one worked fine and I used it for 2 years with no problem. Not sure if you would have any of the same issues with Cox as I did with Comcast.
