First off, I'm bad with technology type stuff.

Here's my situation: I've got an iPhone 5 that Ive been backing up on an old MacBook for the past few years. Well that MacBook bit the dust. I also have a MacBook air that works fine but I've never backed up my iPhone to it. My question is it as simple as just plugging my iPhone 5 up to my MacBook air and it will transfer everything to that computer? I'm worried about losing all the contacts and pictures I've accrued over the past years on my iPhone when I go to plug it in to my MacBook air--I've heard horror stories about that.

TIA

Hum... I'd just double check the backup options in iTunes before plugging the phone in. Surely there's a "don't frick with the phone, just back shite up" option.

Question though: is there a reason that you're not backing up to the iCloud? I do believe that is free now. Never have to worry about it and when you purchase a new phone you just enter in the password and it grabs all your stuff from the cloud... never have to "backup" your phone again as it always does it over wifi.

I'm stubborn in my ways. I'm not really sure what iCloud is and how to work it.
