Audible question

I have accumulated quite a few audiobooks through Audible and just listen to them through the app on my phone.
Is there a way to get the files outside of Audible's "walled garden"?
Ideally I could save the files in an mp3 format or something similar and then listen to them without having to use the Audible software/app.
TIA

What do you want to listen to them on? They have desktop apps and integration with itunes i think.

I should probably rephrase the OP. I have no problem with Audible's app or desktop player, I'm mainly wondering if I can get the files outside of their system so I could share them with other people.
A post in an old thread mentions just sharing your login details with someone and they download the book to their phone and listen through the Audible app. That is probably the simplest solution.
Also, I have audiobooks purchased through Amazon or direct from the author that I listen to using Google music player. I was thinking it would just be convenient if I had all my audiobooks on the same platform.
Can you import audiobooks purchased elsewhere into Audible?

This is what I always planned to do, although I wonder how it'd work with multiple users and syncing and whatnot.

Here is a thread i found some time ago about using Itunes to do it, but I haven't tried it. May be outdated/too much hassle (particularly if you dislike Itunes like I do) LINK
