The wife and I are moving into an apartment for a year while we are having our house built. The only option for tv and internet at this complex is Uverse. We have never had it, but I am excited to try it out to see if it is better than Comcast.

The apartment will be set up so that one of the bedrooms is an office, and we already have a Netgear wireless router that I would like to use for network traffic and WiFi, as well as to connect both our computer and my work laptop to the Internet.

My question is, can the 2Wire gateway be located in the office, while the primary tv box with DVR be in the living room? The only time I can recall being in a house with Uverse, both the gateway and the primary tv bo were sitting next to each other.

Yes, mine was originally like that and the main box was wired to the gateway via existing coax.

+/- one month before you start the obligatory "why is my wireless so crappy in the other room thread"

I swear to God himself, I've never had an issue with uverse.

I did get the router zapped by lighting 1 time but, that's not their fault. I seriously have had them for almost 5 years now and no real issues.

Hell, I even call ATT occasionally and say I want to reduce my bill and cancel things. Usually works to my benefit and I get free HBO for 6 months, 5$ off for 6 months, etc.

I had it for 30 days while I compared it to Direct and Cox...I would take it over those two for television only...

When it comes to bandwidth though, you can't even mention them in the same sentence with Cox..

If you don't run more than one or two small devices on the wireless they give you, you will probably be set

Thanks to everyone for the input.

I will just have to give it a try and see what happens.

I'm on the 18mb plan and I've got the following devices connected:

1) A wireless receiver
2) A Surface Pro 2
3) A MacBook Pro
4) A Wireless Printer
5) Sonos player connected wirelessly
6) An AppleTV (sometimes connected)

I don't have too much of a problem though but I live relatively close (4 blocks away) to the UVerse green repeater box thingy.

I am looking at the highest speed plan (45 MB I think) because we sometimes use Lync for audio/video conference for work.

Current set-up (and hoping it stays this way) is personal tower PC, work laptop and HP LasetJet printer each connected to the Netgear by Ethernet. iPad, LG tablet, Kindle and our phones (LG G3) via WiFi. We have had no problems on Comcast, so we will have to see, and live with it for a year.
