Apple TV vs Fire Tv

I have the older Apple TV now, but want to upgrade so I can add apps. I mainly use it to catch up on episodes of shows I miss
I do use the mirroring/airplay feature from time to time. Is this a possibility with the fire tv or no?
I've been happy with the Apple TV, like I said I just want the ability to add apps so I don't always have to airplay
Is there anything the $150 Apple TV can do that the $100 fire tv cannot?

Hell to the no.
However, if you have shite purchased on I-Tunes you will likely be better served by the Apple TV.

Nothing purchased on iTunes I'd use. There is a airplay/mirroring feature on fire tv?

You can cast YouTube to Fire TV...not sure about mirroring.

Fire Tv all the way. Sideload kodi and you are good to go.

I've read that there are cast apps....I'm not sure how well they work. If I need to cast anything from my phone that I don't get on FireTV natively I just use chromecast.

I just upgraded my main streaming box from a Roku 3 to a Fire TV because the interface on Playstation Vue is bad on the Roku (it's missing the guide amongst many other deficiencies). DirecTV Now doesn't have an app yet for Roku but it is expected Q1, 2017, which could be anytime in the next few months. The Roku also was a few months behind in getting a PS Vue app, and like I said, the interface is half assed implementation compared to the FireTV and PS4 versions.
I used to think the Roku was the best because it was platform agnostic and got everyone's apps, but the last 2 major video services it was at the back of the line for app support, and so far what has come out has been sub par. I'm not ready to say Roku is dead, but if they don't improve their developer support they will be.

No but there is plenty the Firecan do that the Appletv cannot do.
I have all 4 major streaming devices and Firetv is my go to device.

Can you mirror on fire tv?

Outside of Apple Music and iTunes purchases, not really. From what I understand, AirParrot lets you AirPlay to the FireTV. Let me really rack my brain.
Apple TV screensavers are better
The UI is arguably better (I can go on a huge diatribe on how they're all shitty though)
FireTV can't use the terrible AppleTV remote.
That's all I got.

There are apps you can use to mirror an iOS device the Fire TV. I use AirPlay/DLNA Receiver (PRO). It has worked fine the few times I've used it. I have an old Apple TV 2 that I've kept for using Airplay.

I have both. Both the newest devices. I was very hesitant to get the Apple TV rolling but i finally did all the sign up shite. I like the remote. Swiping the top section like a smartphone is pretty cool. I watch DTV only on it and it does fine. My Fire TV is running DTV and KODI on it. I have zero complaints about the Fire tv. Just like the Apple tv's remote a little better.

I'm actually the opposite. I got the Apple TV with the DirecTV now promo, and just couldn't get used to the remote in the little time I used it. I need to give it another try, I guess. Been used to my Fire TV and Roku remotes only the past couple years.

I use this as well. works like a charm. my kid's been using it a lot lately to play shows the Nick Jr. iPad app on the Fire TV.

Thank you gents. I trust your expert opinions

I may be in the minority, but I think the picture looks better on Apple tv...no matter what app you're watching. I also like the remote a lot better, the UI is cleaner and smoother and there are more functional shortcuts

Apparently there's an app on the fire tv called Reflector that allows mirroring
