Trying to figure out best way to get a good pic of the elipse. My son has a good digital camera but curious if phone cameras are just not worth the effort to try.

Related note: anyone install the pixel camera 'mod' on their non pixel devices?

They make eclipse lens filters combined with a nice telephoto lens to get good shots.

Smartphones just can’t zoom well to get anything worth a damn.

Just enjoy it in the moment. NASA has better pics than you will ever hope to achieve, so just download those.

I mostly agree with this. But I am going to be using a good spotting scope with a solar filter to watch the eclipse. And I ordered a mount to attach my phone to the scope so I can take "digiscope" photos. But I'm still not sure I'll waste time on this during the 2 minutes of totality we'll have (if the weather holds). Probably will take some shots before and after totality, though.
