A customer of mine upgraded from DSL to Uverse and has an on premises Exchange.

They use MX logic for inbound filtering, so I just configured the static on their router behind the Uverse modem, pointed MX logic at the new IP, and updated their SPF record.

They started getting bounces from several recipients' servers with the following error:
#501 5.7.1 ... Sender IP must resolve ##

Googling that error, I find people talking about PTR or reverse DNS records that resolve the IP to their hostname. As this would almost certainly involve AT&T support, which I did not want to get involved with, I just setup Exchange with a smart host to MX Logic and started using MX Logic for outbound (already included in subscription).

But certainly there must be people using Exchange behind Uverse without a smart host. Has anyone run into this? I'm just curious what other solutions are.

I also have Uverse...that's about all that I can add to this conversation. No idea what else is going on in here.

Prayers sent.

I have five clients with the same setup. Uverse blows...you can not send outbound email directly because of the sender spam checks. You have to smart host. ATT will NOT give you a reverse ptr record since Uverse blows. ATT will not give you a smarthost to use because Uverse blows. So you need to setup a third party smarthost to route all outbound email.

Reply if you need more help.

That's what I figured. I can't stand those bastards. I don't see why everyone gives Comcast shite, AT&T are the real cocksuckers. I've already gone smart host for them with MX logic to solve the problem.

Yes, and it sucks. I hate dealing with Uverse.

AT&T labels it as commercial service. Cable is the way to go if you can't afford a MetroE or something along those lines.

They label it as commercial which is BS. One of my guys was trying to get it for a jobsite and they kept wanting a credit card. I said I had been using AT&T for 15 yrs and they always invoiced us. The AT&T guy tells me, "Well this isn't really business internet"
