Looks like the preorder for the Huawei Watch on Amazon may have spilled the beans on Android Wear coming to iOS:

quote:

Today's leak of the Huawei Watch on Amazon referenced the fact that the device was compatible with "iOS 8.2 or higher." Normally, it might be easy to chalk up such a thing to an oversight or automatic field-fill on the merchant page.

But I'd take stock that in that information: we've learned from a second, reliable source off the record that Android Wear will be receiving iOS support soon. How soon? It's possible we could see an announcement some time around IFA, which happens Sept. 4-9, though the announcement may not necessarily be at the show or even during it - it's not exactly clear. But next month, generally speaking, sounds like a good bet for an announcement timeframe.

Would be cool to snag a $149 Moto 360 rather than dropping $400 on an Apple Watch

Will the Android Wear devices have all the functionality on iOS that they have when working with an Android phone? I hope they are not gimped like the "Google" app is on iOS compared to the amazing "Google Now" experience on Android phones...

Literally impossible for android wear to have the same functionality as Apple Watch when paired with an iPhone.

I'm guessing it will missing some functionality like ability to reply to messages and using Siri. Guessing it will be similar to what you can do with a Pebble on iOS.

well yeah.

but i would argue google+/gdrive photo backup & google music are far superior to iTunes/iCloud on iOS devices for photo & mp3 management.

would you want a google device to be bound to only apple's apps?

Picked up a $149 Moto 360 at target on the way home

Google says it currently only works with LG Urbane, but not the case. Works with Moto 360 and all other current watches it seems.

Have it paired with my iPhone now. Will play around with it. Gets all notifications, voice works for replying to G-mail and Google search. Also works can track steps and heart rate. Obviously can't reply to texts. Only thing I'm not sure if it does is control music.

It'd be cool to just pair it with my phone and store music on it to use it when i work out

I plan on getting the Moto 360 Sport edition when it comes out this fall. Crossing my fingers that it will be waterproof

awesome. let me know what does/doesn't work and i can tell you how the app works natively on android.

my favorite voice features:

'text [x] i'll be home for dinner'
'call my wife'
'play music'

best non voice features
- muting my phone yet receive all notifications
- wink shortcuts
- viewing my babycam

It gives alerts for all phone calls, texts, and notifications. The only ones that you can respond to using the watch are those that are specifically for other Google apps like G-mail.

You can track steps, calories burned, heart rate, etc.

You can perform Google searches using voice which works surprisingly well. Asked it what time the LSU game was and it popped up with the date and time for the McNeese game. Asked it the score of the Astros game and it showed me the score of the game last night and the time for the game this evening.

It has a native app for weather. Still trying to figure out how to get it to switch from Celsius to Fahrenheit.

It has a Google translate feature that will translate speech into whatever language you want.

You can add alarms, reminders, and calendar events using voice.

It gives you periodic Google cards for things like how long your commute home is currently, weather, etc.

You can't control music on your phone yet from what I can tell. Hopefully they add this functionality. I know it works with a Pebble, so not sure why Google couldn't figure that out.

And obviously with Apple's closed system you can't respond to texts or take calls from the watch.

But so far I like it.

not going to start a war here, but out of curiosity can you use hangouts on iOS to recieve all texts/mms, etc?

the nice thing about hangouts on androidwear is that you can see the photos & stuff people send you right on the watch.

google maps integration on android to androidwear is fantastic so i'm curious how this is on iOS? the turn-by-turn on the watch is very well done.

not even with google music? try installing that on your phone and see if it will control it.

There's no native Google maps app directly on the watch (not sure if there's one when connected to Android). However if I start turn-by-turn directions on my phone the alerts for upcoming turns and directions would push to the watch.

I assume you can reply to Google Hangouts notifications as its a Google app. However, I don't know anyone who uses it as pretty much all my friends and family have iPhones and use iMessage. Assuming someone else has to be using Hangouts to message them, right?

Also, there's no third party apps for the watch as of now. Assuming they may open up the Android Wear app to have its own "App Store" similar to Pebble. I know Apple would never allow third party apps to be purchased for the watch directly from the App Store, so that would be the only way to get third party apps.

It does have watch faces that you can download inside the app, but the selection is limited thus far. I'm sure more will be added.

Correction--you CAN control music on the watch. It doesn't have a specific app for it like on the Pebble, but if you start playing a song on your iPhone it tells you what song is playing and gives you the option to pause, play, skip song, or go to previous song

Did yours come with a metal band? The pics I see on Target and Best Buy's site show it with a metal band and I assumed it came with a leather band.

The one with the metal band is $199 and the one with the leather band is $149. I bought the one with the leather band. You can buy the metal band separately for $50 and swap it out if you want.

Best Buy has the Moto 360 with a metal band for $150 right now so I picked it up. Music control works great with Spotify, Google Play Music, and basically any other music app I tried. I just paired the watch and I haven't gotten a text yet so I can't comment on how well texting works but all other notifications come in perfectly and dismiss from my iPhone when I dismiss it on the watch. I know it will never work as well as an Apple Watch but for a fraction of the price I'm impressed with how well Android Wear works on iOS. I'll probably be getting back into Android with the new Moto G but when I'm on iOS an Android Wear device is not as useless as I thought it would be.
