Building a new home, and was wondering what type of things you guys would add to future proof your home. Any recommendations on outlet placement that I may not have thought of, hdmi, security, etc? TIA.

Wireless isn't there yet and there will always be a need to hardwire some things. I would say put some plastic tube in the wall so that you can change things out easily in the future. I'm building in the next 2 years and will go that route.

Until it does die, no sense in handicapping yourself. Depending upon the size of the home, upstairs/down and outdoor/patio, running Ethernet for multiple routers is absolutely essential. It's a very low cost investment and it's return is obvious.

USB outlets, whole home vacuum, pre wire for security, Cat 6 pulled through the house, and try to use smart switches or WiFi Bulbs where possible to control zones with Alexa. Which you should already own.

Personally, I'd wire it with CAT6 ports but use channeling so that if something better comes along, it makes for easy runs.

If the house is large, or has exterior areas you might want ready access to WiFi, install some ports into the ceilings. Make it easy to put in Wireless Access Points.

Did this in my house. I ran a couple of conduits from the attic down the wall into my living room where all my entertainment stuff is located. I've already had to use it a couple of times to drop new wires and it's so much easier than trying to fish wiring through insulation.

I also installed a box in one of the bedroom closets as a central hub. Ran coax and ethernet from there to all of the bedrooms and living room.

You definitely want to run some cat 6. If this is a large house you definitely want to have multiple wifi access points and having those hardwired is 10x better than a mesh solution like google wifi and others.

I still run ethernet to all of my TV streaming devices because why the hell not. No reason to go above cat 5e for those runs if you want to save a few bucks.

I really like my parent's outlets in their soffits outdoors. Makes decorating for Christmas super easy. Plus they've added some extra outdoor lightning in the back yard with it.

I'd get wire run for outdoor speakers on your patio. 10x cheaper than sonos.

I just did this.

I wired two cat6 to every room and two to certain places I wanted TV's along with cable.

I ran speaker wire even though I wasn't sure I'd need it. It's cheap and you can literally do it yourself with a home drill and a stapler before they close the walls in.

Single room with a HD Antenna and all my cable and cat6 coming into that room.

Outdoor outlets in soffit for Xmas lights

I wouldn't do USB--who knows how long we'll use it.

All LED lights.

Amazon is your friend. Save $$ and buy the shite yourself.
