What should I be looking at? Prices literally range from $150 to $3000.

A true 2-in-1? The only option I know for that is the MS Surface Book. A touchscreen laptop? Best options I've seen are the HP Spectre360, Dell XPS 13, or some Lenovo. I'd just get the cheap MacBook Pro though.

Surface Pro 4 gets my vote.

Surface Book by a very long way.

The surface book would be rock solid for a college student

Just picked up a Lenovo and really like it. Was not looking for a 2 in 1, but took the jump anyway

Considering the Lenovo Yoga and the HP Spectre. Those seem to be the leading candidates for these types.
I like the new MBP, but the lack of a USB port really bothers me. I don't want to have to carry around an adapter.

I got one, but I agree. Luckily right now I work in the office a lot, so I use a USB-c hub. Do you know how many hubs Amazon sells that have HDMI and Ethernet for under $100? One model that's in stock right now.
