Help a tech tard. I'm having trouble with my cox ubee wifi modem, part of the issue is signal pollution from close neighbors. Tried changing channels.

I'm getting ready to "cut the cord", and I'd like to know if it's possible to add a second modem, 5ghz, for a reliable signal to my fire sticks.

I'll hang up and listen.

I had problems in my old house and bought a cheap router and connected it to the main router and dropped it in the back of the house for my bedroom and the kids bedroom to run firesticks and rokus.

In the new house I just bought my own modem and router and set it up this weekend. The ubee from cox was good for a few weeks but lately it sucked.

I ran a new Cat5 drop to the other side of my house, used a POE injector and bought a cheap POE router. It works great and solves my problems with signal in the back of the house (not that big). It streams through my firestick no problems.

I actually got a lot of the info from a thread on here.

You can get a second modem for your house, but your going to pay double the price for internet. No need for this.

First off, buy all of your own equipment from Best Buy, Amazon, etc. Don't buy anything from Cox.

Depending on your internet speed from Cox, I would look at getting a Arris Surfboard modem and a new Linksys Router. The new Routers have both 2.4 GHZ and 5 GHZ Bands built in. The more you pay, the better quality signal/speed you will get for multiple devices. Get one with antennas. The ones without seem to have more issues.

It shouldn't matter if your neighbors have wifi, unless your in a apartment or something like that with multiple routers in a tight space.

Also, please put a password on your router!
