Yes. It does not come with a disk tray so you will have to download everything he wants to play. Xbox Series X is on sale and will run a bit better for most games. Check the price difference. If it’s only $50 more get the Series X. It used to be $100 more originally.

Give the kid some marbles, ball and Jack's, a slingshot, and a pocket knife

Make sure you get the new black series S with 1 tb storage, the white one only has 500gb and that is like 4-6 games downloaded. Also expandable memory cards are really expensive, $75 per TB

If you want the kid to be a mega nerd, buy him these things.

Buy the nice Xbox. The cheaper one does not have enough storage.

Walmart has a Diablo bundle with the Series X for $349

Walmart

There may be others.

Best Buy has the 1TB Black S for $349 as well.

Best Buy

I have questions about that Walmart bundle but it seems legit. That is the one I would get right now.

ETA: There is a thread on the gaming board where the OP said they bought the Diablo bundle for $349 so its legit.

Yes and no. Xbox Series S and X rely on their SSDs to transfer data extremely fast compared to traditional HDDs. Seagate has one external SSD built specifically to Xbox specs to optimize gameplay.

Faster data transfer = fast game play = shorter loading times. HDD are cheaper but transfer data slower. Inverse is true that SSDs are more expensive but will move data faster.

If your child plays single player games, keep them on the external HDD if that’s what you have.

I would suggest ponying up for the Xbox Series X. You can delete old games then redownload if you have to. You can also buy physical game copies if that matters.

True but it is also possible to use any external drive. You can store and play backwards compatible games (XBOX One and older) but you can only store XBOX Series S optimized games. In order to play them, you will have to swap them to the internal drive.

Kinda dumb these fully digital consoles don't come natively with 2TB+ storage with AAA title games averaging like 150GB a piece
