Year 1 was a lot of short and backwards passes but that was more on the players trying to accomplish something they thought they were supposed to be doing. As the season went on, they started to break out of that and actually follow instruction and year 2 was a lot different than the beginning of year 1. Pep actually would rather try to accomplish a much more offensive system. Tiki taka at its core is passing for the sake of passing and it's what the team tried to do.
Pep's system is short passes designed to set up a dangerous pass or to get yourself in a much more dangerous part of the field. He's much more controlling about player positioning in possession than any other coach I'm aware of because he believes in two passes ahead. You'll have a small triangle with quick one touch passes which draws in defenders (especially in the high pressing, quick counter Bundesliga) to open space for an overlapping Juan Bernat or Douglas Costa or a through ball for Thomas Muller.
The reason he's so pissed right there is because Vidal was supposed to be the 3rd point of a triangle with Alaba and Bernat. He fails to accomplish his first task which ends up not really mattering because Bernat finds him anyway. The second part that upsets him is because Vidal had an opportunity to spring Thiago or to turn and find Lewa or Costa and shift from the defensive third to the attacking third in one or two passes.
Vidal decision wasn't really a bad one because he caught the defense shifting and he played the ball back to two very capable distributors and it all ended up working out.
Pep is just upset because he demands attention to detail and Vidal didn't accomplish what he wanted him to. On the other hand, Mourinho would just yell at a team trainer or something which is much closer to your understanding.

He would probably just yell at Pep and Pep would run off to another country.

You're a good sideshow attraction, Randy. We like to chuckle at your asinine statements and your cute grumpy demeanor but no one values your opinion on the game. It's like letting a kid sit at the grownups table, you're really entertaining but when it's time for adult conversation, we'd prefer if you grab some Legos.
