Playing a WCQ in a baseball stadium when we finally have world class SSS's is a fricking joke

Which SSS will hold 50k in attendance?

So the country's mens national team should be held to qualifying in MLS cities in 20k stadiums?

I dont see the real big issue with the team playing in other bigger facilities across the country if they can draw well in those venues. The sport is growing fast. The mens national team may well outgrow the smaller MLS stadiums at some point.

I dont get it, this isnt the first time and wont be the last they play a qualifier in a non SSS.

Oh well.

No I was actually being sarcastic toward that post from arkyhawk. I am totally onboard with STL getting it.

Ah, I gotcha, sorry.

Will be great, will sell out with a lightning quickness. The area is buzzing talking about it today when the news hit. Hope we can provide a great atmosphere for our national team. We used to host a lot of qualifiers back in the day at St Louis Soccer Park before the sport really started booming. Glad and grateful that St Louis is able to be a part of it again.

There's two reasons NOT to do stuff like this:

Cities/clubs often invest a lot of money in SSS, often on faith that people will come. Repaying them by boosting pocketbooks with a qualifier is good karma/business for all parties involved.

They should plan bigger stadium qualifiers well. If they think 50K will show up on a Tuesday night against Aruba, they're wrong - and we're back to playing in front of half full stadia like it's 1996.

All that said, there's enough venues (SSS or not) where the US can play, and I don't have any issue with this (unless the field is shite.)

I don't really disagree with anything you posted buddy. I think its smart to keep the MLS stadiums in the rotation regularly. In fact, its important to do so for all involved like you said.

This game will be a sell out at 49k plus whatever standing room they put out like the Chelsea/Man City friendly at Busch. There is rumour of actually adding more seating to push it over 50k. They will need to do that right though and Im not sure how they would configure that on field other than in the Left/Left centeroutfield area. Here is a pic:

I completely agree about the field. think its important factor that this will be after the baseball season. They will have time to prepare the field for the match much more thoroughly without regard for trying to rebound for baseball quickly.

Hopefully my city and area comes through on our new dual purpose soccer/football stadium so this wont be much of a concern moving forward should there be more USMNT matches here.

STL will sell out a wcq. No doubt. In the hex, we had Salt Lake, Denver, Seattle, KC and Columbus. I think USSF is pretty mindful of MLS. I don't mind a non SSS site every now and then.

Maybe I should rephrase. I wasn't as much worried about playing in a non-SSS as I was with playing in a baseball stadium. The sight-lines are terrible, it looks bad on TV, and the field is typically pretty narrow.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with StL getting it...I have no doubt it will be a sellout and I'll probably be there. I just think they should wait until the new stadium gets built.

Oh, yeah, well its hard to argue with any of this and I agree completely.

If St Louis wants to figure in the national soccer scene like it once did it needs to invest in an MLS franchise and a top notch facility. I kind of get tired of the old timers around the area that lean on the past history of soccer here thinking its a "right". Its not. Times have changed and luckily there is a group of very forward thinking business leaders here trying to bring St Louis back into the conversation. Better late then never right?

I'm just really excited. I cant wait to go to the match.

Yeah, they went quick. The last K are the really bad seats, up in far corners. they will be gone soon, if not already.
