Tonight sucked. Like really fricking bad sucked. And it really bums me out to think that this could stunt the growth of Soccer here in the states.
BUT, for the long term growth of soccer here in the good ole USofA, the same things need to happen that have always needed to happen.
For me it's simple: stop being Euro soccer fans exclusively and accepting that soccer here will always be second fiddle, and watch and support the MLS.
Only with the growth of the MLS will the money grow, being able to pull in more and more international stars, and eventually even our best athletes in the states will start to consider soccer as a top sport and an equal choice.
We have been getting there slowly, so just don't give up on it because of this World Cup lapse. The MLS can and should continue to grow, and don't just accept that it will always be leagues below everyone else.
Tonight's a bummer, but continue to show up and show out your support, and particularly show more and more of it to the MLS (Atlanta United for us southerners). or even your local USL team (I'm looking forward to Birmingham's franchise starting in 2019).
By the time time the next World Cup qualifying rolls around I hope the landscape is completely different and we blow through the Hex like it's not an issue.

Nah, it sucks, but we'll be over it in three years or so whenever the next Gold Cup rolls around.

Nah I'm good until 2022 qualifying starts in 2019
Maybe I'll watch the Gold Cup to see if they make the Confederation Cup.

The MLS has done little to help the national team. If anything it hurts bc it gives all the Central American players a place to play.
You can have a very good national team without a dominant domestic league. Look at Serbia, Iceland, Ireland, Denmark, Poland, Peru, Paraguay, etc

Bingo. Plus, it appears MLS has done nothing significant to help our player development problems. Can't blame the league for being self-serving. Blame Gulati for being a complete failure.

Some sort of resolve has to come out of this. The old guard has to go. Players, coaches, admin, everyone. It has to mean something to play for the US again. It can't just be that it's your spot and you can spend all your time on isntagram looking cool.

This will hurt short term but can help long term if the changes that need to be made are made.
MLS is a very good league and it sucks that this may hurt growth a little.
I don't think not watching Euro soccer will help. MLS just needs to grow and continue to attract new fans.

This is literally the opposite approach that every other country in the world has. The USSF has to invest everything in the youth system, regardless of how much attention we give to the MLS, as the clubs will act in their best interest, which means buying better players that are not American.

And that central american, and South American especially, influence will be good for the long term growth of US Soccer in my opinion. We don't need to look across the pond when we have plenty of talent and quality football in our own time zones.
Have the best of the U.S competing everyday in MLS against quality players from central and South America and we will be much better for it.

Yea. MLS develops Central American talent. Just like the European leagues develop South American/African talent.

The USSF actually announced the closing of the national development Academy this year. Seems like bad timing, as it would be really nice to have centralized finishing centers here in the states like France did with Clairefontaine.

Exactly. I've been preaching it for years, and if I somehow got a shitton of money, I'd spend all of it developing that.
At this point we basically need a new Lamar Hunt.
