Since it got laughed at on the more sports board...
They defeated ED white 3-2. Its there 12th championship, and 6th in the last 7 years. They are ranked in the top 3 of the south east region of Top Drawer high school rankings. #18 on maxpreps ranking with a record of 30-1. FYI St. Pauls is #1 in the country followed by, Mandeville at #3, Acadiana at #8 and Jesuit at #10. Louisiana soccer stacked.

Too bad Title IX killed soccer in the SEC so that talent can't stay here.

I saw St. Paul's crush Jesuit in the state championship last year. They were the most impressive high school team I've ever seen. They moved the ball incredibly well and the team was just extremely well coached. Everyone was on the same page and the players were very intelligent.

Monteverde Academy beat St. Pauls 5-0 this year. SPS is undefeated in Louisiana.

That should tell you something...

"The soccer institute at Montverde Academy" beat St. Paul's 5-0. So a place that recruits nationally/internationally for soccer, and who just put a guy straight into a Europa league team (Amang Olivier, Molde FK), is better than Louisiana's best team? Well no shite. It says more about SIMA than it does about LA.

ETA: FYI, they tied the Roma's youth team in December, 1-1, with Olivier scoring the goal.

Here is their mission statement thingy:
quote:

The Soccer Institute at Montverde Academy (S.I.M.A.) is an elite level soccer specific training experience for anyone who possesses the passion to challenge themselves at the highest level both academically and athletically. Located near Orlando, Florida, S.I.M.A. is a program offered by Montverde Academy to its diverse population of enrolled students on campus from the United States and around the world. From world class facilities to elite level coaching, The Soccer Institute at Montverde Academy provides a professional training environment for any passionate athlete with the desire to work hard and improve. Students registered with the soccer institute will complete a full academic workload in the classroom on a daily basis at Montverde Academy prior to their athletic specific training schedule in the afternoons and evenings. Academic standards must be met in order to participate in the soccer institute as the combination and balance of academics and athletics must always be maintained. Success will only be measured by development with the end result residing in an opportunity to play at a higher level and continue to make your passion a career.

Apples and oranges, dude. How could any team in LA expect to compete with that?

I'm not arguing that, but what i am saying is the nscaa rankings are a bit of a sham.

Teams like montverde and IMG should not be considered for national high school rankings imo. Really isnt a accurate assessment.
