Soccer experts, i humbly seek advice about attending a euro match

So, by some stroke of luck me and a friend will soon be in Lyon and have scored tickets too the Belgium Italy match. I have never attended any match let alone a major international tie such as this and I am humbly seeking any advice any of you may be able to offer.
I am a long time lurker of this board and knew if anyone could help me out it was you guys. I am mainly wondering if it would be best to try and blend in with the supporters or maintain a semblance of neutrality. Any advice is appreciated greatly.

Where are you sitting?

I know I am in categorie 2 in the rouge section but I have left my tickets at the hotel and am posting from the wifi of a French bar currently. Is that cursory information any help or should I walk back and check rows and seat numbers?

I was asking because if you're in a block of one nation's fans, you probably want to be wearing those colors.
ETA: I'm not sure how exactly they allocate tickets at the Euros. SCH would probably be a good person to ask. He'll be on here at some point.

Yea I wouldn't guess it would be good to plop your arse in the Belgium section wearing an Italian flag like a cape

Yeah, I knew I wouldn't want to be sitting in a sea of Italians dressed in red or vice versa but I'm having difficulty figuring out which sections have been allocated to which nations. I downloaded the UEFA apps but they have not been much help so far so I have turned too tigerdroppings. Desperate times I suppose.

Meh, this tournament will be policed more than any event in sports history. Italy and Belgium national team fans have good reputations, so there won't be much fan violence.
You'll be fine whatever color you choose to wear.

Shite man, you'll be fine. I went to Portugal vs Spain in Euro 2004. There was really no dedicated section and both teams' fans were pretty much mixed in. Not a problem whatsoever. These events are so heavily policed.

I was speaking more from the perspective of fun than anything. If he's sitting next to primarily one group of fans it would probably be more fun to be a part of the party.

Yeah that's more so what I meant as well. I have been to more college football games than I can count and love being apart of a rowdy sports environment but just didn't want to guess wrong and be pulling against those I was seated around. I appreciate you guys chiming in though, please keep it coming with anything you know or have experienced in the past.

I went to the roma derby wearing a totti jersey and sat in a section full of Lazio fans. I got a few dirty looks and maybe they said something in Italian but it wasn't bad.
I would make sure those tickets are legit though, heard of people getting scammed at cups like this by people selling fake tickets
if what I heard is correct your name should be on the ticket and you must have the proper ID with you

Just wear an American flag shirt like a boss

I'd get a recommendation from someone at your hotel or a local bartender.

Be a loud and obnoxious American. They will all love it.

Yeah, no problem at all.
At some international matches, you may get some rowdy, drunk fans at areas outside the stadium (or drinking at pubs around the city before and after the match).
However, you're not going to have problems at all with either Belgian or Italian fans just going to match and in the stands unless you look for trouble with groups of drunks away from the stadium.
There will also be quite a few other neutral fans at Euro matches.
Sounds like a great time and you're lucky to see a match with such high profile teams.

Its an international tournament, not between two Balkan states so you're good no matter what you wear. Enjoy it, man!
