You can root for whoever you want but if you're looking for a "bandwagon" team you may want to keep looking. Newcastle is probably never going to do better than 5th or 6th in the PL, and at worst will get relegated. Things are looking up at the moment though as we finally have someone competent running the club. Newcastle is a fun night out as well.

If what you're looking for is a team that will regularly be in Europe then Dortmund is the easy choice
