So was that still the biggest game on US soil in the last 20 years?

Lalas embarrassed himself last night. Nothing new, though.

Probably up there with the 2011 Gold Cup Final.

Definitely bigger than any WCQ.

His pregame analysis and prediction was stupid, that's why, and he's part of the reason people think this is somehow a crushing defeat that sets US soccer back by 20 years.

Lalas embarrasses himself pretty regularly these days. He's tolerable in doses I guess. Usually only after a big US win or something though. He acts too much like a fan to be a good analyst. The chemistry between him and whoever he's on screen with is brutal more often than not.

Not even the most important match this year.

Back in March, we literally had a MUST WIN match vs Guatemala in Columbus, OH.

If we lost that match, we would not have qualified for the World Cup.

Exactly. He brings nothing to new viewers but either doom and gloom or false hope. He's a likeable guy at times, but he belongs on Soccer Around The Horn, not giving pre and post game analysis.

That's irrelevant to this board. Messi was playing in this game so....
