I still don't get it. There's a barrier to entry in the Prem too. What exactly are you trying to say?

This was about pro/rel - you know exactly what I am trying to say. We have a franchise system.

MLS expansion fees have reached $500 million.

That's more than the current valuation of Premier League clubs like Newcastle United, Leeds United, Aston Villa, and Crystal Palace.

And nearly 70% of all MLS teams still lose money every year.

MLS economics are fascianting.

No I don't know what you're saying. Of course we have a closed system. What MLS team do you follow? And do you really think the majority of the fanbase is going to be cool if they have to sell off a bunch of players because they got relegated to USL? No. It works in Europe because those teams have 100 years of history.

A majority of the franchises do not make money

The owners use it as a tax right off

The owners make money from SUM and revenue sharing off the franchise’s that actually make money. You should know that….

MLS need a tv deal 7x more valuable than the old one to operate in the black

Also explains why the jumped at the Apple TV deal which is horrible to grow the league. But helps the league get some money. No one else was going to offer that type of money. The other networks probably laughed MLS off the table.

I live in Louisiana. I don’t have a natural affiliation to any team and have yet to see anything to attract me to a certain one

I’m so lost.

Someone tell me if I should have an American eagle over over MLS or not.

Serious just glad it’s still around. Bring back the Mutiny!

Bro, The Don needs to hire you as part of the MLS marketing team. Seriously though, I wish I was as passionate as you about MLS. I watched the first match live (SJ/DC), multiple MLS cups and saw the potential in the league. It needed single entity in the early years to stabilize the league.

Now, the shackles need to be taken off. Let the teams spend what they want. Loosen the foreign restrictions (they've gotten better), etc. IMO, this will develop the American player as they will be playing against better competition.

Right, because forcing relegation on a league that has been around for just 25+ years with many teams that are less than 10 years old is a good idea. Give me a break. I can't if you are playing stupid or are naturally inclined. The US is massive. Lower level leagues in the US have little stability. I can't imagine a single person making decisions at the top level in US soccer saying, "Hey, you know those lower leagues that struggle to keep teams and sometimes flirt with folding? Let's risk all the progress the MLS teams have made in building infrastructure and expanding the sport by putting them there!" I'm sure you and your neckbeard reddit MLS hater friends would enjoy watching the US completely dissolve a competitive first division that you aren't going to watch anyway.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Like are you telling me Man City and PSG, winning clubs of top 5 leagues, made money last year?

It could happen, but I doubt that will be before they finish expansion so that people can still buy in and be competitive from the start.

Lol. I just like to call out the people who constantly shite on MLS when they've done so much right. In less than 30 years they've gone from nonexistance to top 15 league in the world by many metrics with a recent increase in talent and exposure. Europe is now looking at MLS for new talent and with the financial struggles of Argentina, I'm expecting a continued large exodus of talent from their league which will help MLS in the Western Hemisphere. I think Liga MX is just sitting there as MLS grows and they (along with a lot of people on this forum) just don't see it. The talent in MLS still needs a lot of work, but it's definitely getting better.

Geez. When will it stop?

It already has more teams than most leagues

The nfl is a lot more popular in USA and only has 32 teams and has had to relocate two of them in last ten years

Probably 32-36. It's almost like the US is one of the most populous and expansive nations in the world and people generally like to support team closer to where they live. MLS is better than the Russian, Indian and Chinese league comparing to other large and populous nations.

Why have a league that big if you don’t have enough quality players to play in it and don’t produce enough domestic talent to fill a squad with quality
