It only took until 2007 for the lion to not look stupid.

Why can't they just keep the lion and everything about the old logo? Is it because it's tied to the Barclays sponsorship? I've been a huge fan of the PL for a LONG time, but forgive my ignorance on this specific subject.

What's wrong with keeping that?

I think there were 2 driving factors in this change, 1 being wanting to have a more fresh and current feel to the league. I think the main driving factor is something that's being really pushed in the design world currently and that's the scalability of logos to be used in very small spaces....specifically smartphone app icons. There's a push now to have logos that can be instantly recognizable in a space as small as an app icon. The thought is that if it works in that small of a space, it can be scaled up and will work in any other application. I don't think the new logo is bad. It certainly fits in with the new line of thinking. But I do prefer the current lion better myself.

The new version (or versions) look bush league IMO. It is a major step down in quality. It looks like a child's coloring book for The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe with cheap crayons.
