The Premier League once again lead the way in terms of transfer spend this summer splashing out more than twice as much as any of the five major European leagues.
The financial power of the English top flight has been laid bare in a comprehensive transfer review by the Prime Time Sport consultancy released at the Soccerex global convention in Manchester.
The report details that Premier League clubs flexed their financial muscles to the tune of an eye watering £850m in the summer with Serie A with the next highest spend at just £420.42m.

The Premier League's net spend this summer far outweighs any of the European leagues. England's top flight spent £432.26m more than they received in sales - more than four times La Liga's net spend of £88.52m,
The Bundesliga and Ligue 1 actually made profits of £55.87m and £70.38m respectively on transfers this summer.

Sad these leagues don't even try and compete.

Not their fault they produce better players in their academy than EPL clubs.

Right....I mean you'd expect that kind of spend to be owning pretty much everyone in Europe right?

Honest question here, who does Madrid or Barca have on their teams right now that they've brought through and graduated into their senior squads over the past three years and made an actual difference?
Off the top of my head these are the names I think of:
Madrid:
Jese
Varane
Barca:
Munir
I honestly don't watch a lot of La Liga, but it seems to me that their main strategy is to just hit on a few players and then bring others in when they're 20-25, like Ronaldo, Neymar, etc. More than anything I think their scouting is just phenomenal.
I know Barca has had a ridiculous amount of La Masia grads pay major roles the last few years, but aren't most of them 27+ now?

As well as Barca does now with La Masia and getting many of their youth players to produce at the senior level.....there are a lot of people in the club that would like for Barca to go back to a more La Masia centric strategy for the club. I wonder if these same members are willing to give up the CL and Liga titles that the transfers have helped bring in
ETA: If you take this and the shite that Madrid members give their team....you can deduce one thing...Spanish soccer fans and club members are fricking insane.

Can you give any other explanation for how clubs like Norwich and Watford are spending as much as Real Madrid?

The difference isn't really Real, Barca, Bayern compared to City and Man U but Swansea, Tottenham, West Ham, Bournesmouth etc compared to Leverkusen, Savilla, Roma, Fiorentina, Celta Vigo, Sassoulo etc. Basically EPL clubs outside of the top 4 down to the bottom of the table spend insane amounts compared to all but the few richest clubs around Europe but still don't always manage to make up the difference simply due to the greater number of capable domestic squad players and young talent in Germany, Italy and Spain.
