MLS getting closer to switching to a "Euro" schedule

I'm not really opposed at all. It seems like it would be better for ratings, better for the national squad, and better for the leagues perception abroad.
The argument for snow and other crappy weather is really the only one that holds up, but if England and Scandinavia can manage, we can too.

I think MLS has already debunked this.

We shouldn't let the NBA, NFL, MLB and so on dictate when we play football. MLS to the Euro Schedule is an absolute no brainer.

Scandinavia has our schedule
And EPL teams don't have to play in Chicago in the middle of the winter. Good luck getting people to come out to those games.

I did a quick search to check and I could have sworn that they were on the Euro. Did another search and I am dumb.
But like I said, that is the argument that stands up. Chicago isn't going to be that much worse than the teams in northern england.
I feel like fans have proven themselves with stuff too. People will show up. Dangerous conditions will be rescheduled.

I think the only way this happens is if the networks are wanting it and I don't think they are considering the only other team sports going on in the summer is baseball. I doubt ESPN would really be up for this since they are so invested in college football in the fall and then college basketball and NBA in the spring. I do think that MLS needs some sort of summer break when the international tournaments are going on so teams aren't missing their best players for about a month.

A quick google search tells me that the average temperature in Chicago in January is in the mid to low 20s. This doesn't factor in the wind coming from the Great Lakes.
Liverpool's average temp is about 40 degrees. Newcastle's temperature is only slightly cooler during that same time.

NBA playoffs. NHL playoffs.

Again, I don't disagree. I just feel like the people that live there are used to those conditions. They seem to make it out to Soldier field just fine, which leads me to believe that the Fire faithful with brave the conditions as well.

Northern Germany, Berlin, etc... would have been a better comparison.
To be honest, I'd rather go sit in 20 degree weather in Chicago, than I would 110 degree weather in Dallas or Houston.

I guess if they did this the winter break would likely start around Christmas or New Years and then start back around Valentines day. Even when you do that some of the northern teams will likely have to play on the road out west or in the south for 2 or 3 weeks.

Or they would have, at most, 3 frigidly cold games. I have a hard time allowing that to hinder this.
Edit: And I'll take Northern Germany! Truth is, I'm okay with the schedule either way because I will watch the games either way. BUT this would help the league grow and help with national team complications.

You can schedule night games in the summer to lessen some of the effect of the heat. 20 degrees is going to be miserable during the day and night.

Good point and most of the games are played at night anyway.

weather in england is funny as frick even though its so far north. But it gets just as cold here in germany and italy as it does in the northern states back home. We would just need a winter break. Denmark has like a 3 month winter break

Apparently Denmark has pretty miserable winters AND is on the Euro schedule. They alleviate the weather by doing a winter break starting right before Christmas and Ending in the early stages of March. That way they outright avoid the worst of their winter.
You might be thinking "Well then they have to have a season with fewer games." They actually just fit in some mid week games here and there (something that the MLS could use more of) and bam, a full Euro schedule in a climate that is not friendly in the winter months.
Edit: StraightCashHomey21, right on fricking cue man.

I'm guessing the schedule would look something like this, start early August and end in late May or early June. We could do some stuff during the winter break to stay in form. Maybe have some winter break tournaments in Florida or in the southwest like how baseball does with spring training. Maybe you can invite some teams from Europe that are on winter break to take part.

And those little things that are the NFL and college football.
This won't happen.

We've already gone over how Northern Germany / Denmark are better comparisons. They play Euro Schedules.
How is regular season NFL and NCAA more compelling for a tv slot, as opposed to playoff basketball and hockey?
It's really not that far of a stretch, there is major competition in America regarding tv spots year round. The advantage in all of this lies in the summer and winter breaks (proposed).

I don't think they are much better comparisons for Commerce City or Chicago.
ETA: Though, with an extended winter break, the calendar would resemble the season now.
