Hey guys.

Ander Herrera will surely be in the starting XI, no? Daily Mail didn't have him in theirs that was posted on the previous page.... I just don't see how he wouldn't be a regular starter.

Just curious what opinions y'all have of him.

Before SCH comes in with his Daily Mail horse-beating, I'll say that I'm a big fan of Herrera.

If everyone's healthy, the best midfield trio on the team looks like a double pivot of Mata and Schweinsteiger with Schniderlin as a defensive mid (4-3-3 with a DM). The great thing about Herrera is that he can slide into either spot in the pivot. Mata needs some sort of defensive presence next to him, but Herrera can pair well with anyone IMO.

I certainly wouldn't say it's guaranteed. I would expect Herrera to get plenty of time but also expect him to have to fight for a place in the first choice starting XI.

I'm a huge fan, and think he's gonna be vital to any success we have this year. He's highly technical. I love his ability to move the ball with pace and connect with forward players on the break. He is the type of player we need to break up some of our monotonous possession with penetrative passing. He has goals in him as well.

Yeah, from my perspective I'd like to see Herrera, Mata, and Schneiderlin just because I like the two Spaniards...but I'd be worried about the defensive side of things too. Herrera puts in great work defensively but is it enough to cover for Mata? Did Herrera play as a box-to-box midfielder much last year or was he usually the most advanced midfielder when he played? I must admit that I didn't watch United a ton.

I love this team. I just wish we had a CB we could be proud of. You used to be able to say well we have Rio, or we have Vidic and it's going to be hard for someone to score. Now not so much.

What number to get. I'm leaning towards Schweinstieger, but I dunno how long he'll be here.

Yo, sweet edit after saying in the original post that Johnstone would start in goal.

Phil Jones out for three weeks with thrombosis.

And hooray for three points.

Was the game that bad no one is commenting, ha. Yea def wasnt the most interesting game. Even the goal was a nod to the better effort of the defender to try and kick it away from Rooney. Though im sure Rooney would have still finished it. Ah well like the post before me. Hooray for 3 points.

They certainly need more work, but they'll get better as the season progresses.
Basti did well in his limited role. He'll eventually move into the starting role.

nothing to write home about but we got the points and that's all that matters

smalling and darmian were immense. gotta give credit to romero as well made a few good saves. still a little shaky with his feet but not many are as good as de gea in that department.

weekend shaping up nicely so far.

Zee German came to party.

quote:

Speaking after United's opening-day win over Tottenham, the German international expressed his desire to arrange a trip to the popular beer festival. Schweinsteiger told Sky, "I spoke to [Wayne] Rooney and discussed the possibility of me inviting the team to Oktoberfest, but I don't know how much time we'll have."

I'm hearing rumors of a bid for Lucas Biglia from Lazio. Any thoughts on him?

£17.5 million for another central midfielder? I'm not sure I understand.

Carrick and Schweinsteiger are both injury prone, older guys, I guess LvG feels like he needs more cover.
