Competitive teams will now be made up by birth year not academic year. In other words those born between August 1- Dec. 31 will be affected by moving up a whole league. A 2006 birth year will play in U11 and not be able to stay U10 as previous. Apparently transitioning to be in sync with the rest of the soccer world.

Right, guess should state in order to be in compliance with soccer governing boards. Just trying to notify other parents who might not be aware like I was caught off guard.

Our coach warned us months ago. Very few from my son's team will be affected.

This will suck for my son, as he has a late in the calendar year birthday and his current team is perfect for him. I suspect I will look back later and see this rule change as the beginning of the end of his interest in soccer at a high level. Oh well, at least he will have more time for other pursuits.

Would have been nice for me growing up. My birthday was the deadline so I was always the youngest in my age group.

If this is the straw that breaks the camel's back, maybe he shouldn't be playing soccer

Will a team change at a young age really cause him to abandon the sport altogether?

Seriously, this will have one year of growing pains then it will be back to normal. It's not that big of a deal.

It would have pissed me off growing up, and I might have quit, mostly because I was a retarded and impetuous teenager. My friends were born the year after me, and I was born late in the year, so I understand his son's struggle.

I'm sure he will look his grade school aged son directly in the eye and say "man the fukk up"

If this causes him to quit, then he wasn't playing at a high level.

Well, "high" is relative. My point is that right now he loves his club team but it is a big commitment. We are constantly telling him he cannot do other things he wants to do, because of his soccer schedule. He accepts that for now. But to the extent this reorganization lands him on a team that is not as enjoyable for him, it may no longer justify the time commitment (either for him or his parents). But Lojic is probably right: will probably be fine in a year.
