has totally $hit the bed. On its biggest stage I would venture to say nearly half the games have been decided moreso by not only questionable officiating, but by downright incompetence and/or corruption than the players on the field. They should be humiliated right now.

Lot of VERY questionable calls/non-calls, but believe me, FIFA sleeps well at night, they don't care...

They don't care because they know how popular the sport is, and that people aren't going to stop loving and playing the game.

I'd be really surprised if we don't see a lot of changes following this tournament.

I don't doubt that. What do you think they will change though? They can train refs more and possibly use better qualified refs, but they can't be out on the field making the calls for them. People are asking for instant replay, but you could only use it under certain circumstances.

Officiating sucked the last 2 cups, at least, and I can't remember much further back. In 2002, Korea was gift wrapped a semifinals spot while Italy had approximately 938239389 goals disallowed while Totti was given a horrible red card in their final game. In 2006, there were plenty of questionable calls and one guy even got 3 yellow cards in a game. This isn't new.

Yeah, but they were supposed to fix it for 2010. More training/better refs etc.

Just in the first four knockout round games, Uruguay denied a CLEAR penalty, two German strikers well offside on their first goal, Frank Lampard with the biggest robbery I've ever seen, Tevez yards offside right in front of the goal. Plus we all know what happened to the US and all the horrible cards handed out all tournament. I love the World Cup but it does take away somewhat from the competition.

It's really no worse than the USA goal that was disallowed earlier.

The refs will always have a certain amount of discretionary leverage especially with fouls. However, if we are capable of determining a call to be in error then that call should be overturned and made right. Everyone has known for a long time that the refs aren't always right. Previously no one could prove definitively that a call was or was not correct so it became sort of a moot point.

Opponents to technology say it disgraces the game. The bigger disgrace is knowing better, and turning a blind eye and saying "those are the rules." If we can get it right, then it should be right.

i would be amazed if there are ANY changes. I would be surprised if FIFA even acknowledged anyone asking for change.

sepp blatter did. it was about like you would expect.

i can tell you exactly what the higher ups in fifa are going to do after this tournament. sepp blatter is going to go lobby for the addition of field goals to the game. michel platini is going to try to institute foreign player limits. jack warner is going to go get money. chuck blazer is going to a buffet.

In the 3 or so years I've been watching the EPL and Serie A regularly, I haven't seen as much incompetent officiating as I've seen in 2 weeks of the WC.
FIFA blows.

United's 6+minutes of extra time to beat City

seriously though. EPL had a pretty good year with Refs this year. What up FIFA?
