Here's an explanation of the election process from BBC:
quote:

Each of Fifa's 209 member national associations gets one vote - so the likes of footballing minnows American Samoa have just as much of a say as nations such as England.

It is a paper vote rather than an electronic one and the member associations cast their votes by secret ballot, in alphabetical order.

In the first round, a candidate needs to get two-thirds of the vote to be declared the winner - if the vote is closer than that, a second round of voting is held, where a simple majority is enough.
So the winning candidate would need 105 votes in the second round, if every member casts a valid vote, to win.

Several countries have declared their voting intentions already. The tally (mostly from R/Soccer) is below. Most polls still give Blatter the edge with the Asia block being the big swing vote. Grant Wahl also tweeted "A reminder for tomorrow's FIFA presidential election: Consider who the voters are. Most see no need for reform or change."

Sepp Blatter (Switzerland)

Ali bin al-Hussein (Jordan)
United States
Costa Rica
Austria
Iceland
Romania
Panama
Denmark
Norway and Sweden
Uruguay
Wales
Canada
Australia

Abstaining
Brazil

Blatter will win comfortably. My hope is that causes UEFA to break away from FIFA, and then everyone else follows.

Congress taking 90 minute lunch break.

Plenty of time for more votes to be bought over some fondue and ovaltine.

Blatter will win in a landslide.

Like American politics, everyone knows the whole thing is corrupt sham, but the gravy train to cash is so strong that anyone remotely associated with it isn't go to rock the boat.

So we'll wring our hands about it - and FIFA will keep on keepin' on.

"90 minute lunch break" apparently was due to a bomb threat.

Yeah they started back like 10 mins late and announced that. They announced the 90 minute break beforehand though.

I imagine if they knew about the threat prior to the break, they might've gotten the frick out of there sooner.

well continuing with their consistency, FIFA initially denied the bomb threat as "nonsense" and I think Zurich police decided to step in

Ok well that makes sense. I was watching when they broke session, so I assumed it was planned.

It wouldn't surprise me if a police officer was offstage saying "better make this 60 a 90"

Palestine dude waving around a red card in his proposal to suspend the Israeli FA.

ETA: He dropped the suspension proposal and wants an amendment voted on to have a joint Israeli-Palestinian monitoring committee. Israel seems to be cool with it.

There is no effing way Blatter wins. I would be shocked because you would think some of these dirtbag heads of FA's would want to lay low and not attract even further scrutiny from this fallout. Cut your losses and hope for some US govt heat to fade away. Voting in Blatter is basically inviting some serious heat from Uncle Sam and Switzerland. They're just asking for it.

Some quick math shows just how tough it will be for Prince Ali to win. In Africa and Asia alone there are 100 votes, of which Blatter probably has 90 or more. That means he just needs to pick off 15 votes from the tiny island nations in the Caribbean, South Pacific, and maybe Russia and a few in South America for good measure. Even if every single highly-developed country—the country you probably live in, the countries that produce the anti-Blatter soccer media that you read—votes against Blatter, it isn’t nearly enough to oust him.

Uncle Sam can't do shite unless your deals happened on US soil or through US banks.

Exactly. This is why everyone in the indictment had something to do with CONCACAF and/or tournements in the Americas.

Anybody watching the meeting? I'm hoping a SWAT team crashes in at any moment.
