As part of the ongoing review into The Emirates FA Cup, a sudden-death format for the quarter-final stage has today been approved by The FA Board and will be introduced in March 2017.
The revamped competition will see eight clubs battle it out over one weekend with each tie to be played to a finish on the day, adding to the drama and impact the competition has enjoyed in recent years.
Other new initiatives will be explored to ensure The FA Cup retains its status and appeal. These plans also form part of The FA’s commitment to help ease English football’s congested fixture schedule.
this will only be the first step

How are home teams decided on in the FA cup? Is it a random draw? Seems like a massive advantage to the home team.

Helps teams on the fixture front.
If ur in Europe and continue down the path in these cups, the fixtures get hectic.
Also, Smaller, Minnows should also be able to defer Home field, as to get a bigger pay day, when playing EPL clubs . If ur Chester and draw Man Utd, why not defer Home, and get more in 1 game, in revenue, than you will see, in possibly all of your home games?
Soccer is a business, and 1 Away game at Old Trafford could help a team get into the black.

Eh. This possibly eliminates 1 game? They need to go a little bigger than that.

No more replays period and do away with League Cup. Not sure why on earth their needs to be two knockout competitions except it's been that way forever.

Agree on the former, not the latter.
Good chance for the big clubs to play youth and smaller clubs to have a shot at winning something.
