Nope. He was a reliable playmaker for all of those title-winning teams, but he was never the star.

He's more of the team player that's great in his own right, but his name is legendary because of all of the winning teams he was a part of. He's been a part of 12 league championship squads. For Giggs, it's more of team success than individual success. He never was a Golden Boot...in fact, he only hit double digits in goals twice (early on) in his career. He was a Player of the Month only three times.

So ONREEEEEEEEEE is probably the winner for best individual player.

Man, you know something is fricked up when the die-hard Liverpool fan is defending a Manc.

Asking whether Giggs was ever the best player on his team is a mind-numbing question. Pointless, really. Consider the players he has played with: Schmeichel, Keane, Neville, Ronaldo, Rooney, Scholes, Cantona, Ferdinand, Vidic. The list goes on and on.

Similarly, Henry can be faced with a similar dilemma. The Bergkamp vs Henry debate has long existed. Who really was the "greatest"? Many claim Henry was at his best playing alongside Bergkamp, and when he wasn't, he was a slightly different player. Henry was the better scorer, Bergkamp was the better player IMO.

At the end of the day, I'll give my vote to Giggs. Nobody can dream of matching his career. He is, after all, the greatest winger to ever play in the PL.

Hmm. Again, it depends on the definition of best player.

You'll never touch Giggs's accolades, but I think Henry had more individual talent.

Your answer to this question depends on your definition of best player, really. That's why I flip between Henry and Giggs.

He may have had the longest most successful career but there is no way he was/is the best player.

He's like the Derek Jeter of soccer, great locker room guy, amazing consistency, very very good player on the best/most popular team, won a ton of titles but never really the star.

Hold the phone, folks...

I agree with Uncle Randy on this.

Then what do you define "best" player as?

Goal numbers? Shearer.

Best scorer? Henry.

Assists? Giggs.

Best passer? Scholes, Cesc or Bergkamp.

"Talent"? Bergkamp or Ronaldo.

"Leader"? Gerrard.

That's why discussions like these are ultimately pointless. Defenders and goalkeepers are almost immediately taken out of the equation. "Best" is not a quantifiable metric.

Giggs has scored in every single PL season since its inception. He has more trophies than I have dollars in my bank account. He has played more PL matches than 11 current clubs. He was an integral part of a dominant club. He is one of the most naturally gifted dribblers the world has ever seen. I don't even have time to begin to comment on the commitment, loyalty, passion and drive he has for his club and sport. I'm not sure what else is needed to solidify his legacy.

Most opinion-based discussions are ultimately pointless. Hard to quantify most things that are in these discussions.

I guess. You need to go watch some late 90s United match film. I have a feeling most in here besides Glass really have never seen Giggs at his best. He was dazzling.

Yeah, I missed Giggs at his best...have only been following United since 2003 and at that time, I was 10.

Most 90's United stuff I've seen is from the Treble season, and I haven't watched that in years.
