I'm just guessing here.

But wouldn't the top players on clubs like Bayern, Chelsea, Arsenal, Barca, etc. have a relegation clause in their contracts in the catastrophic, unlikely event such clubs were relegated?

I could see the Alexis Sanchezes, Luis Suarezes, etc. ... the top stars on the top clubs in the top leagues--have a clause inserted that if their club was ever relegated, they would become an automatic free agent.

Yes. But I would say you hear about it more often for players at not so top clubs.

i know Newcastle United when they got relegated thought they were too big to do so, so a lot of their top players had to stay there and they went straight back up

most relegation clauses just reduce pay. they don't become free agents
