Someone more familiar with PSG, what does their typical defensive lineup look like? Obviously Silva is one CB, does Alex start for them? Van der Wiel is their right back correct? Who plays on the left?

maxwell typically is their LB. they've been running sort of a 4-3-3 lately

maxwell-alex-silva-VdW

*ETA: PSG has a really good defense, statistically, this year last i saw

matuidi and motta are really good DMs and veratti is a good DLP-type

You should read more things.

The manager part isn't even really arguable, there are a lot of stats to back up the other claim.

Yep. IMO, their two biggest weaknesses are (a) not taking every match seriously (won't be an issue in this tie) and (b) Sirigu (I just don't rate him).

I'm not saying he's in that class yet because he still has to be at this level consistently over a long period of time.

But, like I said, on current form he's up there with the top 3-5 players in the world. He's been unplayable the last couple of months.

Pep wouldn't even qualify for the knockout stages of the CL with teams Jose has won it with

I'd like some explanation on this one.

Pep's unwillingly to have his players reenact the Somme (See Porto 02/03 and 03/04).

Look at the teams he won with. Pep would likely still be on a goose egg in the CL if not for two of the most tainted matches in CL history.

he's saying that Pep wouldn't have gotten out of his group with peak Eto'o, an in form Sneijder, et al nor with peak Deco, Carvalho, et al.

i mean, i suppose he can have that opinion. i don't think jose could have kept arsenal in the top 4 every year these past 8 years so to each their own.

This is really the route you're going to take in defending Pep?

Look at what these players have done since Mou left. He's the reason they were playing at that level. Sneijder was in danger of becoming an after thought after flaming out in Madrid, Jose elevated his play to that of one of the top 5-6 players in the world. Jose leaves and now he plays in Turkey.

Almost every other player on the team was well past their prime.

He also beat the honorable Pep's squad even after one of the most blatantly disgusting acts of cowardice and desperation in recent memory.

Up until a year or two ago it should have been a foregone conclusion for Arsenal. The last couple of years their squad has not been great for sure but they were fortunate it coincided with Liverpool's more precipitous downfall.

My picks

Barca v Atletico (interesting match up but I think Braca advances)
Real Madrid v BVB (easy for RM, will likely be over after game 1)
PSG v Chelsea (very interesting match. PSG will pull through but I think it's close)
United v Bayern (this will be over before the first half of game 1)

I know it's redundant to have 2 spanish sides playing each other in the semi's since we get enough of that already with their league play, but I really want it to shake out so that Bayern plays PSG in the semis, and then whoever wins that plays Madrid in the final.

I want to see the best matches possible. So Bayern facing both PSG and Madrid would be awesome.

I think Bayern and RM is the best matchup for a final.
