The Living Wage Foundation’s accreditation means that from January 2015, Chelsea will pay all directly employed members of staff the Living Wage as a minimum - currently £9.15 in London or £7.85 an hour outside of London. This rate is significantly higher than the current national minimum wage of £6.50 an hour.

quote:

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: ‘Our great football teams are household names around the world, their every action is scrutinised in microscopic detail and by becoming the first professional sports team to commit to pay the London Living Wage Chelsea are setting the right example.

A "living wage" would be much different in London vs the rest of the country. Is there any data showing COLA to employee pay for the rest of the FA?

The link did not say it so I am not sure directly. However, the national minimum wage is 6.50 and Chelsea will be paying 9.15/7.85 for in London vs outside of London.

Hearts is the first Scottish club on board.

9 quid an hour still doesn't seem enough to live off of. Esp in London.

Typical Chelsea. Throwing around "oil money" to get to the top.

I'm sure there are some parts of London you can live in for 9/hr. Maybe not the Chelsea & Kensington areas, but some parts. They will be extending this to the Cobham training area as well. Either way, its still refreshing to see clubs pay back to their employees.

Call the money whatever you want but Roman has shown his dedication to the club to achieve wins as well as improving all parts of the club including employee wages. I appreciate his constant investments into the club as opposed to just extracting money.

Yeah I was thinking some of the Hackney & Canary Wharfs areas I've been to Even there though they're building some of the huge highrise condos starting at 500,000 pounds to buy.
