West Ham can do themselves a favor by losing out. I know their fans will enjoy European play, but it always seems to destroy domestic seasons for teams.

This Maltese team is playing much better than West Ham. West Ham could easily lose another goal and they look toothless up front.

It's strange that this only seems to happen for English clubs...

Aberdeen up 5-2 on agg against Rijeka.

ICT out 1-0 v Astra. Good showing based on the vast resource gap. Astra play the winners of this Birkirkara-West Ham tie.

Remember that West Ham needed a 2nd half stoppage time goal from Tomkins in London to win the 1st leg.

Scottish teams are doing well so far.

EPL, not so much. I don't want West Ham to lose but....sheesh.

My Irish club, Shamrock Rovers, went out this morning to Odd BK from Norway. Ultimately just too much of a resource gap there.

Poor Riga. Latvia is one of the few places in Europe where hockey is bigger than football.

I'm loving the Maltese band. They've played a few Italian love songs and just got done with the Celtic song (btw, they're set up next to a CSC banner).

Birkirkara down to 10. Second yellow for either dissent or mistaken identity.

10 minutes to go before penalties with both sides down a man.

West Ham up 3-2 on penalties. Maltese defender sent it into orbit. Maltese keeper sucks at saving penalties.

4-3 WH after 4...

WH win 5-3 on penalties.

Based on that showing, West Ham's going to be begging for Sam to come back.
