Stuart Dallas GOAT

Announce Bamford golden boot

Ian SwolevedGOAT finna eat

Bielsa ball szn 4 on deck lads

Last season’s return to the top flight saw a very respectable and enjoyable 9th place finish on 59 points, with 62 goals, a record for a promoted side. A couple cheeky additions to the squad plus the likes of Raphinha and RodriGOAT getting a full preseason and it’s hopefully another top half finish with an eye on tEurGOATpa places.

Lord Patrick led the lads with 17 goals, while tIceman Illan Meslier developed nicely and set the record for most clean sheets by a 20 year old. Once Diego Llorente got fit and settled in the defense improved a lot, especially with the solidity of Cooper and the rapid progress of Struijk, not to mention Big Koch who also showed he can play in midfield. Phillips proved to be an outstanding premier league midfielder and Roberts is ready to take the next step. Looking forward to more Ayling runs down the right and plenty of Klichousery. Alioski is out of contract but has been offered a new deal.

We said farewell to PablGOAT and Berardi but legends never die, like Mr. Personality. Thanks kings!

After a brief preseason it’s right into it with a trip to PENchester United before we welcome Everton to a SOLD OUT ELLAND ROAD. Lads, football as we know it is nearly back.

If not for those October and January swoons we would’ve probably finished 6th or 7th

Gotta get off to a decent start

Phillips looks a better midfielder than Rice to my eye. Been very impressed with how well he moves the ball and he's never out of position. The Rice hype is odd. He's linked with some big clubs but appears to be a water carrier in terms of passing.

The “he only passes backwards” label Phillips gets from England fans is weird. Pretty sure he has the most progressive passes in the tournament

He's doing the Luka Modric role circa Tottenham 2011 for a Harry Redknapp side that favored other Croatians (RIP Niko Kranjcar) and in general, surly Eastern Europeans and also Jermain Defoe. Here the other Croatians are the 4 CBs Southgate insists on playing. A legitimately insane way of playing the sport, but what else could make Thomas Mueller miss from 18 yards because you were randomly playing a high line?

Also we are the one team I don’t hate watching 3 at the back. Atalanta as well. Pretty sure gasperini has them man marking too

For some reason, Gasperini reminds me of Zdenek Zeman. Maybe the balls to the wall style. I like watching Atalanta too. Gasperini gets why to employ the 3 at the back system. It's to allow some defensive solidity for the purpose of attacking with one more player. I don't understand 3 at the back for defensive purpose, as two blocks of four is hard to get through.

Also we can't forget one of the best international teams to use 3 at the back was Bielsa's Chile in 2010. The 3-3-1-3 was cool as hell.

I like when we roll out the 3-3-1-3 against teams with 2 strikers. It worked especially well in the championship when Pablo was dominating as the 10

Otherwise it’s 4-1-4-1 which is kinda a “modern” version of that since not many teams play with 2 at the top these days

There was a time around 2010 when I thought, and others thought, that the role Alex Song played for Arsenal and Felipe Melo played for Brazil would morph into a 3 at the back in possession, effectively giving the "free role" to the DM instead of the AM. It's odd that in the rush to use the 3 at the back, we haven't seen that. A player like Casemiro would seemingly excel. Maybe Melo's stamp on Robben killed that system.

Bielsa's system would work pretty well for most of the big teams. Arteta tried to use this double triangle system, which is similar to the 3 v 2 and 5 v 4 overloads the 3-3-1-3 creates, and that worked pretty well until teams figured out that Granit Xhaka acts like a wounded deer if you come at him from the center of the field when he is facing toward goal. Some straight psychopathic shite too. Falling on the ball, being like Zoolander himself with an inability to turn right, with his version of Blue Steel being when he decided to pass to his right one time and sent the ball straight into Chris Wood's face and then into the goal.

That Xhaka story is hilarious. I like watching Rodrigo. He’s probably the worst presser I’ve ever seen in my life but as soon as someone else wins the ball back he instantly becomes our best player lol

I'll be honest, these pressing systems are sort of exhausting to watch. I need some variation. Someone play the low block for once.

The Leeds-Arsenal game where Leeds ran us off the pitch the first half made me wish for a Cholo led Arsenal, two banks of four, low block, kick the shite out of you stylings of the PL circa 1998. My guilty pleasure for a while was watching Cholo's Atletico just kick the shite out of teams. As I've reinvented myself as a hard tackling DM, albeit only on twig-like women in my co-ed league, I make sure to point to the ball regardless of how close I am to it. I've gotten two boob punches this way season, and I bought the 18 year old ref some candy as a thank you for avoiding any yellows during one game in particular where I should have gotten at least one foul called on me.

Cholo looks like an older slightly curlier hair version of my friend Jorge from high school. He runs a smoke shop back home. I usually stop by when im in town to say hi and pick up blunt wraps. He hooked me up with some good shite last time. It was reggie, but good enough to where you could hoodwink some rich kids into thinking it was hydro if you needed to make a quick profit for some beer on a weekend night. Not speaking from personal experience or anything
