Will Xabi finish out his career in San Sebastián or Liverpool? I´ve always thought he said he´d wind it up in San Sebastián, but I´m not sure.

seems like if he's being pushed out next summer by Real, he probably wouldn't go to Liverpool. he would seem to be a contradictory signing to their new transfer philosophy.

Well it looks like it was an option, so does that mean the same thing as a release clause? Contract talks are so strange. Honestly ilkay is the player, who if he leaves, will be the downfall of BVB. Not Götze or Lewa or even Reus, Gundogan is the entire motor behind them, he has so many touches in their matches. In my opinion it might be very hard for Jogi to leave him out of the WC XI, unlike some other BVB players he actually does really well with the national team and I think he fits in.

Nope, Gundogan chose Germany. Sahin chose Turkey.

He's never lived in Turkey but apparently he said choosing which side to represent was the hardest decision of his life.

If Khedira didnt play so well for the national team, he would have taken his spot already.

He is very Schweini-esque though, idk if Jogi wants both of them at DM. I think both players thrive on their touches, Khedira just wins balls and knocks it to his team mate 5 feet beside him. Idk if you want to take that enforcer out of the squad. Basti can play very capable defense, but that's not really the point. Regardless he's a 'generation' behind Basti, he will get the glory he deserves.

Jogi keeps saying he thinks the 4-2-3-1 is too defensive so there's probably a way to get Gundogan and Schweini both on the field. I think that 4-1-4-1 would work if they played it enough...

--------------------- Khedira ------------------------

Reus ------- Schweiny - Ilkay ----------- Muller

----------------------- Gotze --------------------------

Khedira sometimes loses his positioning and tries to get far up the field but both Gundogan and Schweiny like picking up the ball deep too. It may work better with Lars Bender.

I'm gonna have a real hard time even respecting BVB if they only get 25mm out of him. He's so good and transcends systems as well. He's the glue at Dortmund, who play a very different style than the GNT, a lot of the BVB guys dont get looks on the GNT bc Jogi thinks their stats are over inflated due to BVB maximizing their effectiveness of each player. He however, fits in seamlessly and is still the focal point of the midfield when he suits up for the GNT. Him at Liverpool would be pretty sweet. He could supply Coutinho with all sorts of balls to link the attack. Plus Dortmund has such good wing play that he's also adept at distributing the ball to the sides of the park too, not just forwards and backwards. I honestly don't know of many sides where he would struggle to see consistent playing time if given a fair chance. I'd like to see him stay at BVB just bc he's one of their redeeming qualities to me

I think Jogi has full on comitted to Gotze or Kruse playing as a 9.5. He's been quoted multiple times saying that this is the future of German football and the next logical step in their progression. So I think maybe those 6 guys but push Reus and Muller level with gotze and stagger those 3 in the MF. Khedira would definitely have to be the furthest one back, Ilkay is capable of going forward, but I usually don't notice him playing very high. Basti is severly underrated in his defensive work, but he's far more threatening in front of goal than Ilkay so I would have to say I want Schweini going forward.

I'm kind of just spit balling right now, but perhaps that same set up but sub Schweini at DM Khedira to the bench, Kroos as a C(A)M and Ilkay just a straight CM. What do you think? Kroos and Schweini have proven multiple times they can play together. Perhaps even switch Ilkay to the DM and Basti more at CM with Kroos doing the C(A)M.

Glad this isnt my problem to figure out.
