no numbers to back that up. I know a buddy of mine got offered 11k for a pair of good tickets last year and I know that the cheapest that I saw one before they went nuts was 700 each and a day later they were 1100 and only up from there.

tickets went for more than that for good tickets. When they got oversold big time, ticket agents were offering up 1500 to 2k just for shitty tickets so they wouldn't have to worry about losing them.

Said 60% higher than last year.
Yeah no.
Yeah no.

I read that. Comical. Last year, tickets were $4k online the 2-5 days prior to the game. There were none under $3000 anywhere. This year you could have gotten one for $1500 yesterday. Gumps are cute when they attempt math.

I'm not sure how they can track every ticket sale, but I have a pretty good number in my head. I remember packages going for 10K+ last year.

LOL @ AU and LSU. The information in the article was compiled by the New Orleans paper - The Times Picayune.

"Right now, it's unprecedented," Dan Rubendall, CEO of online ticket broker Zigabid.com, told the Portland Oregonian. "It's absolutely the craziest scene we've ever seen. I mean, this is bigger than any Super Bowl we've seen in 20 years."

Oh yeah, judging by the fact $4,600 >> $2k >> $1150 it looks like LSU fans are carrying bama's arse in this one and driving up the prices.

Fans searching for last-minute tickets to tonight's BCS National Championship game may be facing a case of sticker shock.
The average price for tickets to the January 9 title game reached a high of about $3,000 each on the resale market. Since hitting that peak average, ticket prices have dropped to about $2,000 apiece, according to ticket search engine FanSnap.
The high price is not a record, FanSnap general manager Mike Janes told TicketNews. However, he added that LSU and Alabama's close proximity to the game's venue, Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, will keep ticket sales active throughout the day.
"Since it is effectively an LSU home game, and traveling is easy from Alabama, we expect to see a lot of same-day transactions as sellers decide whether to drop prices or go to the game themselves," Janes said.
The average ticket price for the 2011 national title game — played in Glendale, AZ, and won by Auburn over Oregon — was $4,600, according to FanSnap. Tickets for the 2010 game — won by Alabama over Texas at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA — fetched an average price of $1,150.
