You’re not a liberal—you’re an extremist wearing trendy causes

There’s something twisted about a moral code that tries to mitigate immorality by outdoing the villain. I believe this is what pseudo-liberals—or the “control left”, a moniker I learned from Maajid Nawaz—are trying to do. So, I will deconstruct why, in my view, you’re the furthest thing from a liberal if you believe:
1.) It’s OK to harm or threaten citizens for holding certain points of view, no matter how abhorrent these points of view
2.) It’s helpful to force institutions and organisations into censoring points of view with which you disagree
3.) That your point of view is inherently more valuable or better than anyone else’s

Liberalism has devolved into a brain-dead shuffle choreographed to avoid the hurting of feelings—rather than a rigorous intellectual exercise designed to limit oppression.
quote:
As F. Scott Fitzgerald said: “The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function.” A true liberal leaves their mind open, at all times, to the possibility that they might be wrong. They do not try to coerce people into adopting ideas—without listening to the other side—which they’ve already determined are best. Remember that despite the labyrinthine nature of the liberal ideology, the one thing that immediately disqualifies you from being a liberal is the belief that it’s OK to force people to do something, if it’s “for their own good”.

I enjoyed the read, writer makes some great points that our #resist protestors, etc would benefit from understanding.
Would our resident democrats generally agree with his points?

Classic liberals are now largely contained within the normal "conservative" population.
Progressives are extremists who use the language of classic liberalism to justify their extremism and conceal their true goals.

I'm pretty sure this is where I'd fall in terms of identity politics

And their true goals are (read "should be") abhorrent to people who love freedom

No comment on the topic, again.

Great post, thanks for your interest. I take it you disagree.
The sad thing is the further your friends push down this current path, the more of a self fulfilling prophecy you create. It will not end well for you.
