I also ditched ESPN for good. When they go back to being a sports network, maybe I'll give them some money again.

I haven't watched a game yet this preseason. My interest for pro ball has waned quite a bit.

I was watching for a while, but it seemed like every play ended with a flag, an injury, or a commercial break. It got pretty unwatchable and fast. Once my wife got home, I didn't mind switching it over to the local 10 o'clock news.

This and all the political BS is what turned me away. When I watch football I want to talk about football, if I wanted political BS I come to the poliboard.

Unless its LSU or the Saints playing, I don't watch ESPN

To be honest, I had been bored with the NFL for years. The political garbage was just the excuse I needed to shut it off altogether.

Except for an LSU game I gave up ESPN last year after seeing some black woman losing her shirt over Colin K. Except for one time earlier this week and got to watch that noted political commentator, Cam Newton, saying Colin K was good enough to be starting in the NFL.

Did tune in to something called Pro Football Talk, not sure who puts that on the air, and heard two guys talking about what a shame it is that he is not pkaying.

What is it about the concept that telling your employer's customers to go f themselves over something that is important to them is somehow going to work out well for you? Seems pretty clear that would not be a winning strategy.

I haven't watched a game in a while.

I may be the only guy in Pittsburgh that doesn't give a shite about the Steelers.

I stopped watching before the political garbage, but it's as if every time I say "eh i'm bored i'll give it a whirl" some stupid SJW shite happens like yesterday and I come to my senses.

it's really boring. penalties and commercials slow it down. the lack of defense makes it stale. because of the defensive rules teams throw it all over so now lineman don't know how to run block and you just don't see great backs anymore. it's a position where you get a few capable guys and rotate them. elite athletes don't play running back. lastly, the media that covers it only covers dumb shite that happens off the field which leads to the play by play and color framing their coverage around whatever off the field story line is happening

it's just so boring.

Pro Football Talk
this was the best blog on the internet. it was funny, insightful. speculation and rumors.

now it's probably the worst blog on the internet. it happened before NBC bought them. dude is just a tool. I started following them in 2005. haven't read them in a couple of years.

sucks that florio let the peter kings of the world turn him into one of them to join the club.

Same here. I don't know what the deal is. I guess I'm just getting my football fix from college football, which is more fun to watch most of the time.

I wonder how the Houston and Florida market might have contributed...

This for me too.

However things have changed for me in terms of the Saints. I used to schedule around Saints games. Now I just catch the Saints games if I have time to watch it. I still schedule around LSU games as always.

Professional sports need to realize that they are for entertainment purposes only. And not just any kind of entertainment - they are limited to their specific sport. If I want to dole out dollars to go to a NFL game, I expect to be entertained. I don't care about a player's politics; while I am watching them I am paying to be entertained, and not to witness some political grandstanding. Players can say or do whatever political activities they want off the field, but as long as it's game time, I'm a customer paying for a service, and I expect a quality product in return.

not at all.

also, we now have a year long trend. these short term, one off explanations do not hold water.

big market team with a national following, the opener, nothing to compete for eyeballs, network television, tons of promo...down 12% from last year which marked an 8% decline

it's time to wake up and smell the coffee...for some reason, people are less interested in the NFL. it's still insanely popular and the ratings are YUGE, but they're trending downwards and the loss is not insignificant
